something open on the sides? Tension or Scholdt style?

Mine is a split shank, and the prongs "wrap", and it is open from the sides, if that makes sense. Can't seem to find the pic... :confused:

I'll go look some more.

A tension setting allows the most light into the stone since it is almost completely open other than the 2 sides that hold the stone up.

I like an open cathedral more than a closed, and a u-prong, channel, or trellis setting is pretty also. Technically, if you have an ideal cut stone does it matter what setting you have:

since with the well-cut stone all the light enters and exits out the top?

I wonder if the setting style isn't more to personal taste, assuming an ideal cut diamond, and should have little to do with performance.
