Above are links to two GIA reports. Both stones are approximately the same price. One scores well according to HCA but has more crystals, feathers, etc and the other one scores poorly on HCA (3.6) because of its steep pavilion angle. What does it mean when GIA says "Additional pinpoints are not shown" on the report.

Both stones are G VS1's and approx the same ct weight.

Considering I dont have access to ideal scope images which one would you all choose?

Any help would be so appreciated. As this process is starting to drive me crazy.

Hi 102,
I wanted to point out that by forum rules professionals are not permitted to comment on diamonds being offered by other sellers.

A few general comments ( I'm allowed to give general advice)
The "additional pinpoint" comment is really nothing to be concerned about- it means that minor clarity aspects are not shown.
In general, trying to guess what a diamond's clarity looks like based on a GIA report is a waste of time- the plot and real life are never all that similar.

Many (almost all) professionals will not consider HCA scoring

PS- relax- find a vendor you're comfortable with- that offers a money back guarantee, and you should be fine.
I hate to see people stress what should be a very happy purchase!

Numbers on the ED are nice, can't tell you much more than that w/o more info/pics/professional opinion though. If you like it you could have it shipped out to see in-person.

In VS1 of this size you don't have to worry at all that any inclusions listed will be visible/affect performance or durability, I would not make this a consideration when choosing your stone.

The other stone was discussed a few days ago in this thread - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/poor-hca-score.156735/#post-2854518#p2854518 (same virtual stone, just on a different vendor's listing).

nothing to worry about with VS1 inclusions. are you open to a vendor who provides idealscope images?

(side note: what does the scan on the 2nd diamond indicate?)

I think I am siding to the one with the better HCA score. I feel like it would be a safer bet. I hope I am making the right decision.

FWIW that'd be my pick too, but I'd pay the extra couple hundred to have it shipped out to make sure you love it before you have it set - depending on what setting styles you're thinking about, some will be harder than others to re-use for a stone w/ different dimensions.

I guess that kinda needs a definition of professional.
Is it someone who makes a living out of doing something - e.g. a dealer?
Or is it the other type of person like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional
"A professional is a member of a vocation founded upon specialised educational training."

What % of US dealers (not retailers) meet that criteria?
