I could use some help from this community in helping me with a diamond selection. I'm reading these forums and trying to learn, but I may be running out of time. Any help you could provide would be appreciated, but please help me learn and explain your comments so that I can better understand what I'm looking at.

All that said, I have a budget of approximately $10,000. I would like a minimum of 1.2 carat. I've visited several stores to see their selection and to get an idea for the clarity and color I'd be happy with and I feel like VS2 and G are as low as I'd like to go in that area. From reading these forums, I'm trying to get a very good cut as the primary consideration also.

All looks good, but no hearts image for the BN stone, so the H&A of that is an unknown.

The WF and BGD diamonds are both stunning. I don''t like BN because they don''t provide images and with that crown angle I would want to see an IS. Plus diamonds are not "certified" and so it bugs me they use that language. But many happy customers have come from BN. *shrug* its up to you.

The Whiteflash ACA and the Brian Gavin Diamond ("BGD") look pretty - is the BGD part of his signature collection? If it is, you have access to their upgrade policy as well. The ACA is a hearts and arrows - you want those as symmetrical as possible, which it is pretty close to having. The BGD''s hearts and arrows are a smidgen less even, but in real life, you won''t notice anything. I think either one will be a good choice.

Blue Nile does not provide the aset pictures like the first two so it is not possible to determine whether it is a good choice.

what type of setting are you looking at? is that included in the 10,000?

i also prefer the WF and BGD diamonds for the reasons the other posters stated

I''d like a 3 stone setting and the $10,000 is a ballpark figure. I''d say my upper limit would be $12,000 for everything.

I called to have it held for 24 hours and wondered if there is anything else I should be considering or asking? The above diamond will be placed in a 3 stone ring. The lady I spoke with suggested anywhere from a .25 to .30 side stones, but said it made more sense to go with the .25 if I was considering a .31 (Which is what I was considering) due to the price savings and relative indifference between the look of the two sizes.

Any opinions or help in that and anything else is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

would look good either way...just depends on if you want the center stone to stand out more. i''d probably go with the 0.25s to save in price. i wonder if anyone has pics of different ratios? i know there is a picture comparison out there somewhere on PS...

This image might be useful for you to decide which ratio is more pleasing to your eyes.

Basically, the difference between a 0.25c and a 0.3c is 4.1mm to 4.2mm. The ratio to your main stone is about 0.6.
