my husband has a plain gun metal carbon tungsten ring and it's held up amazingly! Not a single scratch or issues with it. In fact, he now wants a watch....

I have a tungsten carbide ring with a satin centre and mirror polished edges and after four years, there is still not a single scratch on it. I wear this in the gym using the steel olympic bars, in fact I almost never take it off.
I got mine from TitaniumKay. I think it is a nice idea for a wedding band as it is essentially ever lasting, however there are some conditions.
You can even get them with gold and platinum inlays! |

I just got mine at Titanium Kay after some research on PS and on other sites about Tungsten carbide. It's heavy to me but SO thinks it's fine and love the fact that it won't scratch so it'll maintain the beautiful brushed mental look!!! I say go for it!
Oh and I read on Wiki that "emergency rooms and many full-service jewelry repair shops are equipped with jewelers' saws that can cut through tungsten carbide rings without injuring the hand or finger". I was considering this metal for my ring but was told this by the jeweler:
'If you ever get into a car accident or do something involving that hand or finger (smash finger with hammer), tungsten carbide is a bad idea. It is extremely hard and the docs at the hospital are going to have a terrible time trying to get it off of your swollen hand/finger. Doctors will most likely opt to amputate your hand or finger if they cannot get it off, or by the time they get it off, it is too late.' Gold on the other hand can easily be sawn through at the hospital. |
