I have a diamond on hold at a local B&M. The asking price is 19K. Here are the specs:

1.76ct G VS1 GIA Certified

7.76 (7.72-7.77) x 4.80
Depth: 61.9
Table: 55.7
Crown: 35.5 (15.7%)
Pavillion: 40.6 (42.8%)
Girdle: .8%-1.7% (thin to medium)
Fluoresence: None
Culet .9

Is 19K too much to pay for this stone? I realize that most internet dealers are less expensive than B&Ms.

Thanks in advance!

Price stats tells me that an average price for a diamond of that sort (which sounds excellent, btw) is $15000 and a bit online, so they might have a bit of bargain room for you. B&Ms do have a premium associated with them, so you have to decide if it's worth it for you or not. However, this may be a somewhat theoretical price difference, as I can't see any really comparable stones (the closest is http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com/diamond_detail.cfm?did=6946082&ref=PS622, which is a LOT cheaper, but you'd have to check if it's eye-clean by asking them). So yes, you can go cheaper by going online, but unless you like that DCD stone, you'd have to ask vendors if they had anything immediately available to them.

EDIT: this is also a very, very nice diamond, but "only" $1500 less than your stone. http://www.goodoldgold.com/1_77ct_d_si1_h%26a.htm

NiceIce also has a stunning stone: http://www.niceice.com/certcopies/gia13416333/index.htm ($1570)

So... same size as the original one posted, three color grades better, AND $1500 less?! hmmmm... I know what I'd choose!!

[edit]Ah, I see it's an SI1. I'd still take it, provided it was eye clean!

Given that the GOG appears to be eye-clean (amazingly so for an SI1 at that size!), it looks like a very good deal to me. The NiceIce diamond also looks quite stunning, and is even less expensive. However, the original poster may be more comfortable with a B&M jeweler, and it looks like s/he's picked a lovely stone there, too. It's just a question of paying the premium, and whether it's worth it.

It's just really not for us

It depends on the jeweler and area they are in. I think typically the brokerage fee would be somewhere around $700 to $1000 per carat. That is how we work on items not in stock at our store.
