Hi,

I just wanted to start out first and say thank you all for the advice you have given me over the past year. I am currently working with a local jeweler to get the setting done and hope to share some pictures within a couple weeks++.

Aside from the engagement ring, I was also thinking to get some diamond stud earrings for my gf for Christmas.
I am currently looking at 2 stones with the following specs:

Both round brilliants

#1
4.71 x 4.74 x 2.93
.40 ct
H color
SI1 clarity, crystal
EX cut
EX polish
EX sym
medium fac. girdle 3.5%
62% depth
56% table
34.5* crown angle
40.8 pavilion angle
no cutlet

HCA 1.3
EX light return
EX fire
EX fire
EX scintillation
VG spread

#2
4.71 x 4.75 x 2.93
.40 ct
H color
SI1 clarity, crystal, feather, cloud
EX cut
EX polish
EX sym
medium, slightly thick girdle fac. 3.5%
62% depth
55% table
34.0* crown angle
40.6 pavilion angle
no cutlet

HCA 0.7
EX light return
EX fire
EX fire
EX scintillation
VG spread

The jeweler showed me the H&A on these with the scope as well. Looks good from my untrained eye. How is the H&A designation applied? Visual inspection? I know that GIA doesn't list it on their reports. Do EX, EX, EX round brilliant diamonds always have the H&A pattern? The price I am quoted for the pair (stones only) is $1,900. From what I can tell, this seems to be a good deal (or at least a well matched pair); added trust factor due to jeweler being introduced via close referral. I think all I really need is that PS community nod of approval to help with my decision.

Still debating 3 prong vs 4 prong. These will be in platinum.

And as always, thank you!!

looks good to me. My preference for setting is martini as it because the stones side flush in your ear......just my opinion....Platinumm is not necessary for studs but your choice of course......

Hey OP
As an alternative have you spoken with Leslie at BGD to find you matched pairs?
Did so for my daughter, very happy.
Have the setting you want also
Best of luck.

My gf has slight WG allergy if I am not mistaken.

I took a look at the stock that BGD has. Everything 0.8 tcw is at least $2.6k, $700+ more than my current pair. Thank you for the recommendation though. :))

My jeweler gave me a ballpark price if I wanted to go to 1 ct cw. It would be about $3,000. So a difference of $1,100 from the 0.8 ct tw. This under the assumption that they would be similar specs to the 0.8 ct tw set.
Would it be worth the 0.2 ct jump for $1,100? 0.1 ct for each ear, +$550, and roughly ~0.4mm difference.

I'd do 3 prong martinis in plat, but check with BGD for matched pairs bec they have some pretty spectacular stones.

Eta I see that you have so nevermind

Yep, going with the 3 prong martini style. :)

On BGD, for 1.0 tw cw, the price range is around $3,700. < higher color, F and G's
On WF, for 1.0 tw cw, it's about $4,600 for ACA. <Nothing available around the SI1 range, only VS1 and VS2. Higher color as well; F and G's.

Wait so for a lower color at your local jeweler, you're only about $400 less? BGD all the way then.
