Anyone have *any* information?

There are a bunch of posts (all very crytical) about buying in the 'Diamond District'. This is why you did not get all the literature again...
One :thread and there were others. As you can see, there already is some established wisedom that going for one of these commercial requires caution. It did not cross my mind to shop there, knowing what their overhead should be.

I have been to the diamond district and did not like the atmosphere at the few stores that I went into. I would recommend using it as a resource. That is, just go there to see different diamonds, settings, etc… Leave your cash and credit cards at home.

Best bet is to go there and see for yourself. However, since you are probably not very knowlegable about diamonds I would avoid the diamond district - especially if you are one that succumbs to high sales pitches.

Unless you know what you are buying, you will be subjected to hawkers pushing their wares and you would not be able to tell whether you have just been swindled. There are many reputable jewelers in the diamond district and you can find many good diamonds for sale - whether they are a bargain is subject to deabate.

My brother bought from David S. Diamonds on 47 St and 6th Avenue. He is quite satisfied with his purchase and experience and have been a repeat customer. Is it a company that I would recommend? - Well I don't quite know. I have read the educational pamphlet that David S. Diamonds provided my brother and frankly I find that it just gives cursory information regarding diamond cut quality. And the fact that David S. Diamond has a different definition of what constitutes "ideal" cut that differs from AGS leaves me to question how much they actually educate a potential buyer versus them pushing the sale of their "near" ideal diamonds as the real deal.

Again, if you are gamed, then by all means visit the diamond district and see whether you can actually find bargains.

Stick with your brothers opinion...David S has wonderful diamonds!

it''s always good to go and look (gather lots of *visual* info!!), but as someone else already mentioned, leave your credit cards (and any other funds!!) at home!!

Yes, I thought it funny too that all the old threads regarding David S. were mysteriously being dredged up by the same person.  Only 6 posts diamondgrl and all of them regarding the same topic?   Hmmmmm......all of them being glowing reviews of same store......
