Is this a princess cut?
My experiences with these proportions in princess cuts have not been good. It depends upon how picky you want to get with regards to cut, optical symmetry and light return within the stone. If you don't give a hoot then stick with what you got. If you do give a hoot then I can virtually tell you that by these numbers it'd be safe to pass. I'd have to agree with Rhino apkesh.
I learned in my research to stay away from princesses with a greater table than its depth. Not a good combo. I don't think diamond purchases should be rushed. It's a lot of money. As I mentioned before, you can always propose WITHOUT the ring and then buy it with her. Get a cute fake ring or make one out of tin foil for now. That would melt my heart. I just want to let you know that there are so many more stones out there that you can buy for the same amount of money - and they may be better. Whatever you decide congrats. I disagree with proposing without the ring since you're shopping for it anyway. When you get it - take a good look at it in different situations and lighting (as I'm sure you will). If it looks good to you then keep it - if you think you can do better than return it for a better cut one.

I don't know too much about princess cuts, but plug these #s into the AGA DIY Cut Grading Chart at www.gemappraisers.com to see what it says about this stone.
If you decide that this stone doesn't look great when you get it...then I would highly suggest taking a little more time to really get the right stone. Put off the proposal if you don't want to propose without a stone...but don't rush this decision. You will regret it later if you feel like you got taken OR were in such a hurry you couldn't do the research. People should never be in a hurry to get engaged or married, no matter how long you have been together. Another few weeks will not matter...but the diamond she will have on her finger for the rest of her life WILL. My two cents  If you are interested in more well-cut princesses with better light return than the typical princess stone, check out some of the branded type stones that are floating around..Rhino has some at www.goodoldgold.com, SuperbCert is supposed to have very well cut princess stones...and there are other vendors who sell some of the branded rounded princess types like Lucere and Regent etc. With a cut like a princess I would focus on maximizing light return and getting a well proportioned stone...the fancies are hard to judge by just #'s.Good luck!! |
