Not sure about whether to pinch a 2mm, but I know PSers have 2mm or less rings (sometimes with larger stones) - I can''t remember if it was Diamondnut or Diamondfan who had a 1.5-ish mm pave setting. And I have a 1.22 ct sapphire in a 1.9 mm setting with no problems. I think it would be fine to go 2mm

My finger size is 4.5 and I prefer a "thin" shank. The shank width of the designer setting I chose (for a 1.5+ ct stone) is actually less than 2mm (i think it is 1.5mm). Total personal preference but I agree that 2.5mm is a little too hefty for a petite 4.25 finger.
I don't think it is fair or professional for the jeweler to so adamantly push his opinions on you. Who is he to tell you (buyer and wearer) what width you want for your setting? He can disagree all he wants but the final decision on YOUR setting should be yours. I can understand if he was apprehensive due to durability issues but this should not be the case in a 2mm width. However, since you did originally agree to the 2.5/2.2mm and the final product reflects as such, the unfornate reality is that you will most likely have to pay additional expenses to have another setting made. I would rather pay the additional cost (current jeweler or alternative) than settle for something that I did not 110% love. Good luck and let us know what you decide. |

LOVE DN's ring(s). The width of her upgrade is a 1.8mm LM with a 3.29ct. ![]() ![]()

Hi All,
It seems that 2.0mm is not too thin and is possible....he did say that it was a matter of preference that under 2.5mm you begin to affect durability and he kept saying "you don''t want 2.0mm, trust me"......so that''s what I went with...unfortunately I didn''t like it.... and you''re right I might have to absorb the additional cost. I think the 2.0mm is what I will go with but I think visualy it the height of the shank that bothers me... so I think that he will want to stick with 2.0MM as well, but I think I would like it at 1.8M but I''m sure I will get a lot of slack from him. The other thing I noticed, is that my 1.06ct looks real small with a 2.5mm thick band.... lol....unlike DN rings (Thanks Collee)...well I meet with the jeweller in a couple of hours so any other/additional inputs are appreciated ![]() |
