Searching for a cushion, slightly overwhelming!

Hello all,

I am currently working with Mark at ERD and also doing some self-searching for my diamond. I want a cushion at least 1.00 ct and it is the finer details that are getting me stuck. I am not able to see the diamonds in person so I am using James Allen's database as well as ERD. I am having trouble deciding what is most important in the balance between color, clarity, size, cut, etc. I do know I want the diamond to "face up" as big as possible and that in my reasearch VS grades are still "eye clean"? I think I would be willing to trade a little clarity for size as long as there aren't any ugly eye visible inclusions in bad spots.

The main issue I am having is finding a type of cushion that isn't a crushed ice look. It seems if I look at 30 different cushions, each one has a different cut and I'm not sure how each would look in person.

If you guys have any suggestions for my budget $5,000 (little bit of wiggle room) for the diamond, I'd be grateful!

Why aren't you buying one of Mark at BE's beautiful signature cushions? Both of these are almost within your budget and over 1 carat. Isn't there a discount for buying both diamond and setting together at BE?

Are these x-factor diamonds modern brilliant cushion cuts? I see they're separate from the Mark T modern cushion's. I will check them out unfortunately the GIA cert isn't available without calling.

Thanks for the links everyone I think I may pull the trigger on the link to the 1.05 ct from ERD.

Looking at the dimensions between the two, does it seem the 1.03 may face up larger than the 1.05 due to the larger dimensions? Seemw like a considerable differenfe but is it noticeable in person with that difference? Size appearance is important.

Yes, the 1.03 will face up larger than the 1.05 based on the dimensions of the diamond. Have you called them to let them know you are interested in both diamonds and ask for them to take a picture of the diamonds side-by-side? It may give you a better visual on the size difference.

Mark at ERD has ensured me the 1.05 in the link above is by far the superior choice. "100% eye clean which is extremely rare for a VS and brilliance and fire is exceptional". Also seemed very determined that the 1.05 was a better choice than the 1.03 with larger table dimensions.

I believe I will put the deposit on this one, and hope it looks as amazing as the photos! Anyone see any issues with it or the price?

Eye clean for a VS1/VS2 stone is not rare. It NOT being eye-clean would be rare.
