I''m working with an independant, non-chain B&M store on a round brilliant. They have on-site jeweler, and seem reasonable.

They''re sourcing a stone for me (I''m not commited to them - I just stopped in , and my gf has repair work done there).

I want to have the stone I choose independantly appraised, before setting.

What''s a reasonable (or minimum) return period I should ask for?

Or, if the store mandates some unreasonable amount of time, should I walk?

Thanks !

sixstrrzr,

If the store is bringing in a stone for you from an outside supplier, the return period will probably be dictated by that supplier. Usually it's pretty short, a few days up to a week or so. Many appraisers have rather tight schedules this time of year and you should arrange your appointment as early in the process as possible. If they understand the deadlines imposed by your dealer they should be able to work with you. Make sure to allow for shipping time if the dealer, the appraiser, or both, are out of town.
