My initial thought: Wow, that's really pretty. It's unique..and I quite like that.
Afterthoughts...I wonder what kind of wedding band you could make work with a setting like this? Would future Fiance like it? Might be one of those that you either love it or hate it... If you go with it, I suggest setting it traditionally otherwise you may run the risk of having too much going on. |

I agree with this. I like it a lot, but it would limit wedding band options, and unless she has said she likes this type of modern-vintage style I am not sure I would risk it! |

that is a definite concern... will this style look dated in five years? Is this a style you would love at first and then be sick of it? I think she is okay with wedding band on another finger, so that would not be a concern...

I do not think it will look dated. It is not a trendy style. I am not sure how it would look with a princess though? That is a lot of different cuts -- round, marquise, princess...

I thought about that as well. I commented before I remembered you were going to put a princess in there. I think this setting would look best with a round stone overall. I don't think it would be a setting that looks dated over time, I just think it's a unique style and either you like it or you don't.

I have always liked that setting. I like a mix of different cuts. I bet Brian could make a killer band to go with it. I think I would
ask for maybe one more stone down each side if possible. But I would do that with any ring since that is my personal preference. I love it. |

It's too busy looking for me, but I like very plain settings, generally. The other thing that someone else mentioned is that I really think this setting would be prettiest with a round diamond, not a princess.
I have a kite-set princess pendant. I got tons of compliments on it every time I wore it, but for rings my personal preference is to set square stones straight. To my mind, the most important consideration is if you think your fiancee would love it, and if there is a wedding band that will work with it. As someone else said, I'm sure that Brian could come up with a great band if you decide to go with it. |

Thank you all for the advice... I think I will err on the side of caution and write this one off as too busy with a princess cut... awesome setting but I just don't know for an every-day ring...

that setting is gorgeous, but if you're unsure maybe try putting the diamond in a temporary setting and then go setting shopping with her and see if she likes it.
