I have started a new project and looking for some feedback from this great forum.

I would like to get myself a right hand ring with canary center stone I am particularly love the ones that are more of the lemon shade/color).
I have read a lot of info on this forum and reached out to David from DBL.
I very much like either cushion or radiant cut for center stone and David has suggested this stone:
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/loose-yellow-diamond-160ct-fancy-light-yellow-vs1-radiant-cut-gia-beautiful-cut-r6035 and this style ring http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/loose-yellow-diamond-121ct-fancy-deep-brownish-orangy-yellow-i1-radiant-cut-gia-great-color-r5226 (i am not sure if i prefer different shape of side stones, i am thinking trillion will look better than half moon but would like to hear feedback on that).
I am open to stones that are SI1 (as long as it's eye clean). I am somewhat hesitant about SI2 but i guess with right parameters and constructive convincing I might consider it as well.
If you asked me for top important characteristics of stone, I would say it would be size, color and how alive the stone is. It just has to play and sparkle. The only reason I am somewhat hesitant with clarity is for resale value as who knows maybe many years down the road I decide to sell the ring.

I do like settings that are delicate but at the same time are not too thin because my ring size is 7.5 and i don't want it to be lost on my hand.

I have some concerns about fancy light yellow color. How light is it? I have looked at some pictures here but i couldn't find anything that compares fancy light yellow to fancy yellow.

Has anyone went this route (purchasing online) fancy color stones? And how happy were you with results?

What are your thoughts on the stone that I have as an option? http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/loose-yellow-diamond-160ct-fancy-light-yellow-vs1-radiant-cut-gia-beautiful-cut-r6035
What other options are out there?

Are there any other things that i would be concerned with? Any thoughts on the topic appreciated.

note: so far, my communication with David has mostly been via email and i have been very happy with his timely and detailed responses.

Hi Marina,

I've bought 43 fancy color diamonds and every one of them has been based on pictures and occasionally a video. I've only returned 3. I haven't bought from David, but I know he's highly regarded here. There is actually a chart on his website comparing all the yellow diamond grades http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/DBL_Yellow_Diamond_Grading.shtml. I think color-wise you have to find a stone that speaks to you. I think you'll find that it will be a balancing act between color and size (cost).

Some other vendors to check out:

Can you ask DBL to do a video of that stone?

Also, I would want to see it's color in different lighting situations so I would also ask for that.

As a side note...I'm not a fan of moons and think trillions would be nicer as well as giving you good finger coverage.

Edit - I would also like to see it on a white piece of paper to see how colored the stone is.

Found this video that might help a little...

What exactly are you looking for in color? Something light-ish yellow or something darker? Or "Hey tyty, that's what I'm trying
to figure out!"

Great suggestions, tyty333, i will ask for those.

I think i am looking more for lemonish color. Not dark but definitely yellow (more of lemon shade) that clearly contrasts with side stones. Your thoughts on moons exactly along the line of my thoughts. I have looked at many pictures of radiant cut stones online and i think moons just won't work as well.

Personally, it's a little light for me (I prefer a little more intensity of color), but it looks like a very pretty stone:)

It is going to need a lot of help to look lemon yellow as fancy light is very light. For colour accuracy of the FCD, look at the pictures where the tweezers are their natural light gray colour, with the light source coming from the front, rather than being backlit.

Have you thought about maybe sacrificing size a little bit to get more of the yellow color that you're hoping for? It might be easier to get the color you truly want as opposed to trying to "encourage" more color (using a cup, etc.).

You said you wanted a canary color diamond. I think David does a great job of photographing every lighting type. It is telling that in no lighting has that diamond looked canary. It's up to you, but my feeling is that even though the size is nice, the color is not where you'd like it to be.

Thank you all. This is same concern i have. My husband thinks it might turn out too light and instead of looking true yellow it will end up looking as low color white diamond.
I have to say, David has been very helpful with giving me all various options and he does have money back guarantee policy that is why is still contemplating.
I have done search on other yellow diamonds but i haven't seen good inventory in my prices range. I have seen some stones turning in my search results between 1.5 and 1.7 but i feel the parameters of those are worse (some have strong fluorescent and cuts are not as good). Maybe i am searching in wrong places :?:

This question may show my newbie lack of knowledge, but would setting it in YG bring out the colour more than a WG or Pt setting?

If you want a WG or Pt ring, you could always go for a shank in either of those and then just the head in YG :)

^OP has already mentioned maybe setting the stone over a yellow gold cup in an effort to enhance the color. However, some people don't care for cups because they can be difficult to clean. A setting head alone won't change stone color much - except maybe compliment it.
