Hi - Just found this site recently looking for info about my new ering. Peope here seem knowledgeable, nice, and funny--works for me!
Would really appreciate your opinions on the asscher center stone:

GIA report
Square emerald cut
Measurements: 5.53x5.50X3.83 mm
Weight: 1.05 ct

Proportions
Depth 69.6%
Table 58%
Girdle Slightly thick
Culet none

Finish
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very Good

Clarity IF
Color D

Fluorescence none

It''s cut with 4 steps instead of 3 or 5

I don''t have a Sarin (?) report--am I right to assume that can only be done on an unmounted stone?

Thanks!

That was my response too, Mrs S! D IF--WHOA. From my VERY layman''s eye at first glance the table/depth/mm measurements look they could be promising....

So it''s a done deal and is mounted, right? Asschers can be tricky by the ##s, so if your eyes love it, that''s what matters.
We''ll wait for Strmdr (the resident asscher expert) to weigh in!

And more to the point.......PICTURES PLEASE?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Oh yeah, and welcome to PS!!

Would love to send pix --- any hints how to get a good shot? Some of the photos I''ve seen here are gorgeous- is there a thread or FAQ or something?

diamond looks really beautiful to me but I''m no expert

Thanks guys - little nervous about submitting but you''re all as nice as I thought you''d be...

Digital camera.

Macro function.

Good light (no flash).

Patience.

That''s what I''ve been able to garner from the experts on here so far. Mara''s pictures in particular are ... FABULOUS.

Use the macro setting on the camera (the little tulip icon) and hold the camera really, really still. Get close, but not too close, so it doesn''t get blurry.

Tier Hog was able to get some amazing pictures of his RA with a video camera and then he took still from it. I don''t know how he did it but I want to try! I can''t wait to see pics of yours... it sounds gorgeous!

Hi there!

Ok--spent a whole day obsessed with trying to get pictures of my diamond!

20.gif
As suggested, I shot in natural light either indirect sunlight inside or direct sun outside. I used digital RAW format so I could enlarge the shot enough to get details, then converted close-up to Jpeg. And oh yeah, whoever said "lot''s of patience" knew what they were talking about!

Ok, first two shots happened right around sunset shortly after I first posted here...

Next day, inside indirect light - if you look closely you can see the image of window shades...

trying to get as "colorless" surroundings as possible to show cut... the stone picks up and reflects the slightest hint of any color

thanks strmdr! I''ve come to realize you''re one of the real experts here! (been trying to do some reading in the few minutes when I wasn''t trying to snap a picture

you know, I really Do like clipped corner look as opposed to the classic octagonal stop sign shape. Both are beautiful but I prefer the patterns in the more square diamond, smaller windmill - it seems to give more of that "going to infinity" look - but that''s just me...

Thats kewl :}
a lot of people do.
My favorite is the in between ones not too small and not to big but if I was going to one side or the other I think smaller windmills is better than too big.
When it comes to them its personal preference kicken asschers can be cut either way.
