Hi Experts,

My nephew is purchasing a diamond for his soon to be fiance and found this one at Blue Nile.

Does this look ok?

His budget is $7,000 for the diamond.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Pavilion angle is MUUUCH too deep.

Price tips off that there is something wrong wtih it... 7000 for an H VS1 gets you about a carat.

Thank you Julie!

If anyone has time, can you suggest other diamonds in his price range that would perform nicely? He is hoping to order it soon, as Blue Nile is still promising deliver for Christmas at this point! Nothing like waiting until the last minute! :wink2:

The ideal cut 1.2 H VS1s are probably more around 10,000 from the popular vendors. What do you think he is willing to sacrifice on?

Thanks for the replies ladies.

Well, he's not even sure what he is willing to sacrifice - he has never even really looked at diamonds in person...so I guess he is going to look at some in person tomorrow (at a high end jewelry store, with GIA cert diamonds) to compare some stones in person, so he has a better idea of what everything means.

He's not going to buy anything tomorrow, but IMO he really does need to look at some real live diamonds so he knows what to look for on paper. Poor guy - he is overwhelmed I think! He's an engineer, so maybe when he has some in front of him he will be able to visualize what he's looking for!!!

I'll post with updates as I get them and then maybe we will have more to go on besides budget!

Thanks again! :wavey:

Well I am suppose to be cooking dinner but hunting diamonds are way more FUN. So here's a few that I thought looked promising. Please call and make sure they are eye clean and it is not over blue ( in the words of Gypsy ;)) )

So call them and ask if they have notes posted or photos of the stones already in the system. I recently bought a beautiful diamond from BN on a budget but it was a lot of hunting/calling to find just the right one.... It is doable but a lot of work!! =)
