Hi,

I'm hoping I can get some assistance from forum experts finding a top performing 1 ct round diamond. I understand the 4 Cs and have some preferences, but the measurements (crown, depth etc) and their interactions are making my head spin.

I'd like to get great value, with that in mind:
Cut: Must be among the best
Clarity: Must be eye-clean, prefer VS2 or better for peace of mind but would consider an SI1 as long as it was definitely eye-clean
Color: I-color or better
Carat: I'd like a 1ct or slightly larger, but I would consider say a 0.95 if it was a great stone.

I'm looking at Jamesallen because I get to send 3 stones in for analysis. But I am definitely open to other vendors as well.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I meant to put that in! I'd like to keep it closer to 6K if possible. I'm going to factor in cost pretty strongly, but I don't want to sacrifice any of my above preferences (like going to a J color, for example).

It seems there are some I-color stones at Jamesallen hovering around 5-6k.

Here are 4 stones I would consider, from most to least expensive (stretching your budget and well under):

1.0ct, H, SI1 (if you like the look of 60/60 stones)
http://www.goodoldgold.com/ecommerce/1ct-h-si1-premium-round-ideal-cut-diamond.html

.978ct, I, VS1

.922ct, I, SI1

.91ct, G, SI2 - August Vintage Round (different facet pattern)
http://www.goodoldgold.com/ecommerce/0-91ct-g-si2-august-vintage-round-diamond.html

All of those are eye-clean, have Ideal light performance, and come from well-vetted vendors, with lifetime guarantees. Any would be a winner!

What kind of look does a 60/60 stone have?

I heard that jamesallen doesn't do aset / idealscope pictures for round diamonds so i never asked.. Can anyone confirm that it is possible to get these for round diamonds at jamesallen?

Ask for idealscopes (not ASET) on rounds. Lately they've said they can't on some stones (they don't have them in hand or something like that), but you can always request them.

Thanks for all the help, everyone! The suggestions have helped tremendously. Can anyone tell me if Whiteflash still does a pricescope discount?

So I went with this 0.922 ct one suggested to me a few posts up:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3273924.htm

Good choice? Is it definitely eye-clean? And are there any flaws in the ASET/Scope images I should be concerned about? I'm definitely paying a fairly significant premium to go with Whiteflash over a jamesallen stone with similar dimensions (but addmittedly, I would have to go through the process of asking for a gemologist inspection in that case).

Happy to suggest it!

I would just check with Whiteflash about YOUR definition of eye-clean. It is eye-clean according to their standards, but you can ask about specifics to be sure it will be eye-clean according to your standards.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks again for your suggestion! Yeah I'll definitely ask for specifics on the inclusion, the only reason I am concerned is that the report does show a cluster of clouds right on the middle of the table, and you can kinda see it on the idealscope. Regardless, I'm sure they are tiny and Whiteflash can put my mind at ease. Really, as long as it is the absolute cream-of-the-crop in terms of cut (which from the ASET images it looks to be), I'm not going to care about microscopic inclusions. It's going to sparkle like mad.

That would not be eye clean for me. If eye clean is as important to you as you say it is, you should stay in VS.

When did you get a chance to see this specific stone in person?
