Lifespan of friction backs. . .

How long do friction backs on earrings tend to last before they give out? I am just curious as I probably will take my earrings out about once a week for cleaning.

My previous pair of studs are screw back and after four years, they were starting to unravel on their own. I usually had to check them a few times a day to be sure they were in place.

I''ve had mine from WF since late last fall. I wear them almost every day, and take them out every night (except when I ocassionally forget) and they''re just as tight as they were when I got them.

I can''t think that I''ve ever had friction backs wear out.

i picked up a pair of estate platinum diamond leo studs on ebay couple of months ago. one of the the backs was definitely worn out. i lost the back of the stud while eating in a restaurant and very nearly lost the earring too.

so yes, they do wear out, although I do not know how old these backs were.
