Well, I''m looking for somewhere I can see some great diamonds and settings, but not some place too high end that I won''t be able to afford anything I see. :) I''m looking in the range of about $15k-$20K for the stone and setting (for an e-ring), and I''d like the stone to be at least 1.5 carats (Round). Will I find anything at the higher end jewelers you mentioned? Thanks again for the suggestions!

You should definitely check out the diamond district on Wabash and Washington. I''ve been told that the better jewelers are on the higher floors and the street level jewelers are overpriced for the tourists, but it''s still fun to see all the jewelers in one area. Oak Street also has high end jewelers.
If you''re in Lincoln Park, just north of downtown, I like Steve Quick on Clark street and Jan Dee on Diversey. I''m going to have my engagement ring made at Jan Dee. Have fun in Chicago! |

Andrea helped me out and is very nice. She was also very helpful in having Verragio customize the setting for me as well. Oddly enough the diamond was 1.505 and with the Verragio setting I will be in your range of $15K - $20K. dimend SCAASI also has a a nice selection of unique jewlery and diamonds. I was also there a few weeks ago and saw some very nice Turkish jewlery. Isacc is the owner, is very helpful and knowledgable, and can custom design settings. |

New York Jewelers has by far the best inventory on Wabash. That being said, they can be a little pushy, so if you truly are interested in viewing the best selection and can withstand a sales tactic check them out, 11 N. Wabash. I''ve gotten two diamonds from them and find their prices to be just a smidge higher than internt prices. Talk to David; he is one of the owners. They''re open 9-5:30 M/T/W/F, 9-7 Thurs., 10-5 Sat, closed on Sunday.
I also second the recommendation for Marshall Pierce at 29 W. Madison, 6th Floor. I got my Kelege setting from them and love working with Jim Bern, he and his brother Jerry own the company. They are open 9-5 Mon-Friday. They are closed on Weekends until the holiday season, so depending on when you get there they might or might not be open Sat/Sun so call first, 312-372-2415. |

My FI and I both live in Chicago and we ended up using an incredible jeweler in Buffalo Grove, which is a northwest suburb of Chicago. If you'll have a car and can get out there (it's about an hour away) I highly recommend making the trip. We spent a lot of time on Wabash and spoke with some nice jewelers, but we fell in love with Burdeen's when we saw the quality of their pieces. He was so patient with us as we changed our minds from yellow sapphire to diamond asscher to cushion, and every single stone he found was incredible. Our budget was the same as yours--15 to 20K--and we ended up with a gorgeous 2.01 ct cushion in an eternity shared prong setting for a bit under 15K, which is incredible. If you do a search for them in Google you'll find some articles about how they're a certified couture jeweler (I guess only 1% of jewelers carry that distinction) and other great things. ETA: They have a lot of settings in the store, as well, original settings and great lines like Michael B., so you'll have a lot to look at. Enjoy your trip! Call Burdeen's--you'll be happy you did.
