Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind... Anyone else have anything good/bad to comment about on this stone? Is it a fair price? |

I'd take a look at this:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2696797.htm It'll be more brilliant than the one you posted and the price is better. Pricescope Wire Price: $27,721.54 |

That is gorgeous! I am completely drooling over here! |

Why do you think so? Is it a depth or pavilion issue? |

Thank you everyone for your adive but no one has directly answered my question. Is the diamond I listed in the first post a "fair price"? Is it safe to assume its a fair-good price since I'm getting it at below BN pricing? |

seems fair, if it's a old trade in stone, be sure there is no chips etc to it |

1. IMHO, it's too deep. I like the 59.5-62% range 2. Pavilion is too large. 40.6-40.9 is again ideal, at least for me. 3. I don't think the premium for an H -> F is justifiable, but I'm not extremely color sensitive. The diamond I linked will blind you with its sparkle and color would be an afterthought. 5. Its nearly the same size with better optics and $2000 cheaper. I don't think there'll be a difference between VS2 and SI1, but the OP is going to have to ask WF if it's eye clean from the side. 6. HCA on OP's original stone is 2.4. Remember that an HCA score less than 2 is optimal. EDIT: To answer the OP's question of if it's a fair price, I'd say yes. But you can get (IMHO) a "better" diamond for less money while maintaining the desired size. Remember, "cut is king." If you're willing to come down in size, here's another beautiful option! I think 1.5 carats is plenty big! http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2599706.htm Last edited by SinkingFun on February 7th, 2012, 7:44 pm, edited 3 times in total.

If you consider a fair price getting an inferior stone for more money than a superior one, then yes, I suppose it's a fair price.
The others were simply trying to show you better options BELOW the BN price, I assumed your answer was in their suggestion. |

The stone the OP us considering is not inferiour or troublesome. I think we need to be careful not to get too dogmatic or extreme in our advice to posters. We cannot conclude based on the information the OP provided that any of the other options suggested would be better than the diamond he is considering, and cannot conclude that another stone will be more brilliant. ETA: He also did not ask for suggestions of alternative diamonds
It is a GIA Ex. GIA rounds its estimates of PA and CA so even though it scores above 2 on the HCA, it is not worth rejecting out of hand. It is a diamond worth considering further and gathering some more information about before you commit. Either an ideal scope image or seeing it in person and comparing it to known "cherry number" stones would be helpful. THe color and clarity are very nice and desirable if important to you. Price: at the top is a search tool to help you see the price of comps. You can use that to determine fair market value. Pricing below blue nile is a good start though. |

You've already been given some pricing info but I must say I love that clarity/color combination. Good luck.

BN is less expensive than the average jeweler on most of what they sell. Is that what you mean by 'fair'? If so then it looks like you're a little on the low side, but you already knew this.

He did however ask for an opinion of his current stone and it's often easier to critique it when comparing it to another of similar quality and price. I didn't recommend the stone but IMHO it will out perform the stone the OP posted, so whether or not the price it is being offered at is fair would depend on what else he could purchase for the same or less money. I may be wrong but I believe that was the point that was point when the suggestion was made. ETA I don't feel that OP stones is necessarily a dog either, I'm simply implying that there are other (better?) option with his sizeable budget. |

How is an F VS2 with an excellent cut inferior to a H SI1? People pay more for color for a reason. I somehow doubt in the real world you can tell a difference in cut between those stones - unless GIA is waaay off - but I'm sure you can tell which has the better color.
