Today while looking for something else online, I came across my earring backs! Stuller carries them. Their registered name is EarringLock® and here is the page they can be found on:

I have to add that I absolutely love these earring backs! They are easy to use, comfortable and completely secure. I wish all my studs had them.
The earring back has 2 holes that only line up when you squeeze it -- then the post can be inserted through the 2 holes. When you release the earring back, it grips the post at the indentation. These backs require the matching posts. They won't work for ordinary posts.
