Well...hubby and I went to the Los Angeles Jewelry District and went to the recommended dealers by family, friends and an online resource through Robert Hensley, Gemologist. It was interesting to hear the dealers tell me that EGL was as good as GIA and that tables of 70+% were  good for the diamond. I went to one who was recommended by a family friend...the diamonds were beautiful and as much as they dusted off the stone, I could see what looked like dust particles, but would blow off...I began to think they were inclusions, but the GIA specialist told me that it was "probably just extra dust." ... Whatever...

The final appointment to the day lead me to Liberty Diamond Cutters...there was another review here who wasn't thrilled with him, so I went in with my eyes opened...he was pleasant, not pushy and brought a selection of diamonds for me to compare. He also (purposely) brought lower quality ones for me to compare with the nicer ones. He had me look at the diamond in store lighting and then special (GIA approved) "daylight" lighting to show me the difference...WOW!! Can jewelry stores pull the rug out from under you with their tricky lighting!!! Anyway, I found the "perfect" diamond for me
30.gif
!! He's setting it as I speak and will be able to pick it up tomorrow from his Orange County location (which is the main store...) . Troy is a certified gemologist (GIA) and was ever so patient with me as I was waivering back and forth...my husband finally made the decision for me as I was personally torn...

Troy appraised my setting for me and told me that he couldn't even give it to me for the price that I received it at!! That made me feel great!!

Anyway, I don't have pictures yet, but here are the GIA report numbers...I'm not including price, because at this point I love
30.gif
the diamond and I don't want to hear that I might have gotten a better price for it somewhere else (which I'm sure someone here would be able to find ;-) but I really wasn't feeling comfortable with purchasing a diamond over the internet, despite raving reviews here on PS)...but, here are the GIA stats:

GIA report graded 1/24/05

EMERALD CUT
7.09 x 5.05 x 3.33
1.03 Carat
Depth: 65.9%
Table: 62%
Girdle: Thin to Medium
Culet: None
Polish: VG
Symmetry: Good
Clarity: VS1
Color: E
Fluor: None

There is one tiny inclusion at the edge, which will be covered by the prong and it is eye clean and 10x clean!!! Due to the table stats...it looks SO much bigger than 1.03 carats! When I get it, I'll show pix!! Thanks so much to everyone for the information and the feedback!! I appreciate it more than you'll ever know!! I was able to go into these jewelers and not play into their tricks due to PS!!!

Wow!!!!!!!!!! That stone is beautiful and I LOVE your setting!! Congratulations on finding your perfect Emerald!!

Sounds like you had a wonderful experience with Liberty Diamond Cutters! Would you recommend them? Do they have a showroom in their Orange County location?

I would recommend them. Troy Lob and his father, David, are both GIA specialists and are very knowledgeable. Troy is easy-going and I didn''t feel pressured...like I said, you might get a better deal online, but I wasn''t ready to order online and he was willing to show me several diamonds in my specs. He also shows the diamonds under a "daylight" lamp so you can see what the diamond will look like outside of the store. He is patient and answered all my questions.

Their main showroom is in Orange County, right by the airport. The LA location is really for appointments only (the OC location, you don''t need an appointment) and is currently empty other than what Troy brings for you to look at. The OC location (where I picked up my ring) is fully cased with beautiful settings.

I''m happy with my end result...let him know that Jodi and Dan referred you...

Thanks for the info on Liberty Diamonds!! My boyfriend and I are thinking about buying online, but have been hesitant since we can''t see the stones. We are just right here in Orange County so we will definitely have to go check out Liberty''s showroom! Hopefully they are open this weekend!!

Thanks phawk!!

If you call them ahead of time, they can make sure they have the stones you want to see (which is what I did). I don''t know if they''re opened on Saturdays, but they have a Liberty Diamonds website that you can click on and there''s lots of information about them....

Even if you don''t get anything from them, you''ll definitely leave with more knowledge!

Good luck!

Thanks!

I did leave out thing that just showed the professionalism of this company...

I bought the setting about 2 weeks ago and was told it was possible to place an EC stone in it. When I brought the setting in to see it with the potential diamond, I was told it was possible, but really for a RB cut...I was ever disappointed, but Liberty Diamonds said they could do it...GREAT! I also needed it sized down 1/2 a size. Again, I was told no problem & could pick up the finished product the next day. I got a call the next morning from the VP (Troy) telling me it would be a lot more work than they thought and 2 jewelers wouldn''t touch the setting because the whole ring needed to be reset after the resizing or the baguettes would pop out!!! I was devestated....because they agreed to take the sale and they did find a master jeweler who would do the work, they agreed to press forward and still have it done on the same day...

I gotta say the professionalism of this company impressed me so...there was no balking, no requesting of extra payment from me and the finished product is
30.gif
30.gif
!! I''ve gotta give this company "2 thumbs up" for professionalism and knowledge!!
