Found an AES triple ideal cert HOF 1.57 carat H VS2 through an independent dealer for half the price. Any ideas why they wouldn't be selling it for more? We saw the certification and HOF enscription. The dealer usually only sells GIS certs but came across this one through a sale.

HOF stones are normally waaay overpriced at retail, so half price sounds much better! But in the case of second hand diamonds, the owner could have sold it for much less than it was worth and then the new seller is still able to make a profit. What is the price?

There are HOF pieces that are liquidated from time to time by various dealers - this could be one of those pieces. You'd need to ask the dealer for specifics on the sale.

HOF has rules for their dealers abuot discounting on 'new'' items and they have to hold the price line. These rules don't apply to stones that the dealer bought from someone else and HOF has no say on folks who aren't authorized resellers. They can charge whatever they want as long as they can get the goods. Why not charge more? Because they don't think they would get it. It's a highly competitive business out there.
