I'm working with ERD to set a 1.33 carat round. Chris sent me this photo and though it's a nice setting - he would do bright cut pave edged in milgrain to match my wedding band - not the pave type shown here. However it is missing an antique feel to me. I also like cathedral settings and am toying with the idea of 6 prongs. Since he's doing custom I'd like to give him better direction so he can come up with an accurate quote.

This Beverly K setting speaks to me - love the pave shank, cathedral setting and 6 prongs. And how the prongs are not set in the a Tiffany fashion as there aren't any prongs at the north and south points. I would get rid of the engraving as it's too busy for me...but would the pave on the profile look odd on its own without the engraving? Also others here say don't do pave in areas that rub against the wedding band.

Leigh Jay Nacht has gorgeous antique settings and not just for cushions and old mine cuts, but rounds too! Here are a few I really like but notice the side views are all plain gold with no pave.

So my main question is, how can I incorporate pave into the profile /side view of a ring, when it's a cathedral ring with 6 prongs? Pave on 6,stems wouldn't look right as pave adds bulk. But I don't want the profile to just be plain gold either.

Or maybe the basket could have a pretty flourish like this only with 6 prongs? I don't like baskets that cover too much of the diamond though.

Love this one. Maybe ask him to do pave work on the basket?

Sigh I'm struggling with thus one...I don't want it to be a Frankenstein setting with a little of this and a little of that. I can't seem to find one I'm perfectly happy with though.

I notice all the ones you like (except the solitaire) have milgrain.

This is what I'd do. I'd start with a solitaire that has the lines you want.

Like the one below.

Then I'd send that to ERD. And tell them to add brightcut pave with milgrain edging. And hand engraving.

Lol I guess I am a milgrain kinda girl. Sometimes I think I belong in another era like the 20s or 40s.

Oh, between Tacori, Bev K, and a ton of other ring makers who use milgrain, you are in good company!

I am not much help because I can't decide on my own setting! But my best advice to you is to set your stone in a temp setting until you find something you really LOVE.

I know you said you didn't want the sides too covered, but have you seen this gorgeous solitaire designed by Erika Winters and carried by Jewels by Grace?

The other thing you can try.

You an start with a design of ERD's.

Like this GORGEOUS 6 prong:

Tell them to keep the head and the flower petal design. But make it cathedral. And then add bright cut pave with milgrain edging. And hand engraving.

Ooooo I love this one gypsy!

Diamond seeker - yes!! The last one!!

Ok I know how to execute this now. Emailing Chris now!!! Thanks guys!!'

I LOVE MILGRAIN!!
You have so many great options there, wow!

It's sooooo pretty. I feel like we are parallel....stone chosen, cads being designed... I have a timeframe of early April so plenty of time.

I keep going back to LM's lotus design. This would work for the Fleurette, only with bright cut and milgrain.
