Ditto! If you always wear gold, and you like YELLOW gold then you should get that metal color. If you go with another color that you don''t normally wear, then you may regret it. |

Thanks for advice, everyone! I''m planning on taking a look at the diamond in a temporary yellow gold setting to see how much of a hue it takes on. I''m the sort of person who would definitely notice a hue, and it would bother me, but if it''s not that noticeable I will probably go with yellow gold. It''s just hard to be absolutely sure, and I''m planning on this being my ring forever, as i''d prefer not to "upgrade".
Thanks for the advice everyone, looking forward to hearing more opinions :) |

I''ve seen the two-toned option, where the top of the ring is white gold and the shank is yellow... all I''ve seen is the picture in the catalogue, though, where the colors are wacky (computer generated gold and such), but I''d still be worried about the two toned disrupting the flow of the ring. However, I could ask about having the insides of the top dipped in rhodium or something to keep it white. That''s a good idea!
Thanks guys :) |

Alas, it is not possible to dip the inside of a ring, or even to plate one secction and not another - if you want a two-tone piece, you need to resign yourself to just polishing it, not dipping it. What you can do is to have the prongs or bezel (the parts closest to the stone) done in white gold, and the shank done in yellow. Frankly, with an H, I don''t think you even need to do that ... many people say you *should* set the more yellow stones in yellow gold, for maximum contrast. With an *H* - already a white stone? You''ll be totally fine.

oh I see that you are interested in a Gelin Abaci setting, unfortunatly "dipping" isn't possible, however, one of my local jeweler does Fusion where technically the two metal meets and looks pretty cool, but If you want Gelin Abaci setting you, probably need to go with what they have or ask for custom (if thats possible)

Thanks for the link to the yellow gold thread, what beautiful pieces! If it were a prong setting, I''d just get the prongs in white gold and be done with it :) Thanks for clearing up the "dipping" issue, as well, I''m a major newbie and am trying to figure out what is and what is not possible in jewelry. I''ve heard that white gold of higher karat values can sometimes have a yellow tinge to it -- that sounds like the best of both worlds. I wouldn''t be worried about the yellow gold coloring the diamond, but it would have some warmth to it. I haven''t seen this in person, so if someone could enlighten me I''d be really appreciative! Again, I wish I liked the look of the "bezel" part of the tension setting being white, but with such a fluid piece I found it disruptive to the eye, personally.
You all have been so helpful! DBF and I are driving the diamond from southern Indiana to Chicago (where we''re having the setting shipped from) so I''m hoping to get a good look at the actual stone in YG and see how I feel about it. Still, if anyone has advice about "yellower" white gold, do tell :) |

That unplated white gold is GORGEOUS. I wonder if the alloys that GelinAbaci uses would produce that beautiful creamy color? That would be absolutely perfect -- I wouldn''t be so worried about my stone reflecting *yellow*, but it would go with the rest of my yellow gold pieces and look great against my skin. Does anyone know where I could get more pictures of unplated white gold? I''ve been googling, but I''m not coming up with much.

Aww, thanks! I saw the setting early on and fell in love with it, but we didn''t know if it would be in our budget. After looking and looking I didn''t see anything else I really loved, and getting a custom piece would have run us nearly what the original setting was, so we decided to go just $100 over our original budget and splurge for what I knew I wanted :) So what if we don''t go out for the next four months? I''ll have this ring the rest of my life!
Also, I''m still wondering what unplated 14k gold looks like, if anyone can find some for me :p I don''t imagine any local jewelers would have any just lying around... |

That ring is a stunner, DT! The stone really looks quite white, especially with the diamonds underneath :) That does help, definitely. I figure 14k yellow gold isn''t as shockingly yellow as 18k, and hopefully with my stone it will just add extra pop instead of coloring it noticeably. I''m still considering unplated 14k white gold as well, the more pictures I find of it, the more I like it! I''m going to run around to some jewelry stores in the next few days to see if I can get my hands on some to see what it looks like next to my skin.
