Hey guys, I've had a little bit of experience buying online from overseas PS vendors and have been thrilled with the results.
I'm now hoping to help out a girlfriend in buying an engagement diamond/ring.

Just recently they have looked at a 1.4-1.5ct (not exactly sure of size) diamond here in Sydney, its a H, SI2 GIA cert Ex cut diamond with simple WG Cathedral setting for $12,000 AUS
I'm hoping that some of you more savvy diamond spotters might be able to help point us in the right direction for better value for money or if this seems reasonable. They haven't been able to get me the diamond specs at this stage.

I've had so much great advice given to me on PS I'm hoping that you might be able to help here too.

If buying online and overseas (US)... there is a GST component that still needs to be paid BEFORE you get the ring/diamond. There is alo an import duty which i believe can be waved.

This is what i have read, but Aussies that have bought from the US recently can perhaps chime in here. These are the links that i have that relate to that:

ETA : So, when pricing your BLING, make sure you take the above into consideration, as well as the other C's....

happy shopping!

Yep.
I recently bought a ering from WF.
Needed to pay GST but no Duty.
When the ring arrived they gave me a call, I provided them my CC details and that's it.
Took around 3 days to reach me.
Best decision ever. The quality of my diamond doesn't even exist in many jewellers here.

Thanks guys,

Just to update the diamond they were looking at in Sydney has sold so we are on the search in earnest for a diamond of similar specs online.
Is anyone willing to throw a few suggestions at me?

Once you start looking overseas in earnest there are a lot of exciting possibilities re interesting cuts - old mine cuts, a wider variety of cushions etc.

Maybe you should even go back to square one and discuss these options with your friend?

Met a couple of jaw dropping OMC and antique diamonds yesterday at Perth gtg - they were all sourced in the US.

JustGinger's OMC proves that a little color can enhance the beauty of an OMC too.... Although whether your friend would be interested in considering those for her er is another thing...

Hey Lara, great idea. I'll ask them about the option of an OMC or like.
I'm pretty sure however that they have their heart set on a modern RB... I'll have to show them some pictures of the gorgeous sparkles on here.

I've been searching the websites but with a new 6 week old baby I don't seem to be able to spend as much time at it as I'd like.

Just off topic though, I was very jealous that I lived on the other sided the country....I'd have loved to have caught up with you all at your get together on the weekend. It was Susimoo's Emylia ring that convinced me to have mine reset in the Emylia by Victor earlier in the year and I recently bought a stunning RG morganite halo ring from her on DB recently. I'd have love to have 'shown them off' and gazed longingly at everyone else's stunning baubles. Ah well, so close and yet so far!! Hehe.

Keep the suggestions coming. We need a H, SI2 ( no lower) approx 1.5ct RB and simple cathedral setting for about $12,000 AUS.

Steve 112233 so great to hear your fab experience buying online. All my purchases have been really easy smooth transactions and far better quality and value than I would have found here.
Thank goodness for PS in pointing me in the right direction 5yrs ago.
