I''m new to this forum, but wanted to ask everyone''s opinion of the Harry Kotlar cushion.

My fiance and I are looking at a ring that is set with a 3.02 ct cushion, G colour, SI1, no fl.  It is set in a handmade platinum mounting with .76 tcw of round brilliant diamonds in a halo around the center stone and on the shank.  The original asking price was $80k.  We have negotiated the price to $64k, but my fiance still thinks this is high.  I have been told by the store that Kotlar is raising his prices and they will have to re-ticket everything at the end of the month.  This means we have to make a decision quickly on this ring or we will lose the opprotunity to buy it at the negotiated $64k

What do all of you think?  We could buy a non-Kotlar cushion of similar specs for +/- $34k and have it set in the mounting (which is ~ $9,500). But I''m torn because Kotlar''s claim to fame is how much brilliance  his cushions give off due to their unique faceting.

Any comments are welcomed!

(I''ve tried to post a photo, but I''m having difficulty. Will try later)
