I suggest you don't guess. It will be important, on that day you present it, to have done your best to be sure she can wear it immediately. Hi John. Trust me, I don''t want to guess. However, the rings she wears, she wears on her middle finger (size 4) because her ring finger is too small. Therefore, taking one of her rings to the jeweler would not be much help I think.
We were at a jeweler once and I believe she was measured to be 3.75+, which is where I got that number from. So, this is my dilemma. Mark Morrel said I could have it resized if it''s not right, however like you, I would prefer not to do this so she can wear it right away. |

Wow, she has small fingers. Your memory might be on, but it never hurts to check if you can. Is there any chance you could enlist a friend to help? You could be out in a threesome and randomly pop into a jewelry because your friend is considering a birthstone ring for his (mom, sis, aunt, mistress  ... you get the idea) and "innocently" ask your gal what size she wears as a comparison. You can reply that her fingers are much smaller than (mom?) and parley it into a "sizing" contest, where you, your friend and she all get your ring fingers sized and compare them, ostensibly to figure out what "mystery girl's" finger size is.That route may be a stretch but it worked for a friend of a friend, who then bought his diamond from one of our dealers... We so rarely outsmart our wimmens that we still celebrate his craftiness in ceremony and song. |

Won't blue nile send you a free ring sizer? Wait till she's sleeping and slip it on her finger... if she's a light sleeper, get her drunk and wait until she passes out... If a gentleman really feels he must guess than I would say the average woman would rather have something sized down rather than up. Think about trying on jeans. Nothing like accidentally picking up and trying on a pair of jeans that is too small-not a pleasant tactile experience at all. Trying on pair of jeans that is too big doesn''t bug nearly as much as hopping up and down like a stuffed sausage.
Similarly I think most women would rather get a proposal ring that slips on with a little extra room over one that makes them worry if that ring will ever in fact come off again. Also I would guess not a pleasant tactile experience.  Mrs.2Artists |

Ha ha LOL, this made me crack out loud Mrs2 !  Good advice from everyone, definately no guessing if possible and err on the side of larger rather than smaller. If her middle finger is 4, then 3.75 sounds reasonable - but that said, every person will be different. Good luck! |

Thanks everyone for your input. It''s really too bad she is a light sleeper and doesn''t drink (although it would only take one drink and tonight we are having a dinner party with friends so...)
I''ll let you all know how it plays out. Now, I just have to figure out whether to go with a 2.5 or 3mm band width. Oh, the decisions keep on coming! |

1 word: Nyquil. Mix it in with her pea soup and a glass of wine--you are all set. As for band width... smaller is better IMO, especially in a solitaire--it will make the diamond look better... if you are going platinum, there''s no reason to worry about it not being strong enough... |

I have to echo Arjunajane and Lorelei with the ROFLAMO! Except.... I agree with the unpleasantness if purchasing for yourself (stuffed sausage hopping personally experienced), BUT if someone else buys a larger size for the more pleasant trying it on experience and it is too big, isn''t that kinda like buying clothes that are too big and giving the impression you think she is ''fatter'' than she is?!!  (I am of course just joking and actually agree with 2Artists!) |
