Just for fun -

What's your favourite shape in a larger stone, and why? And by larger, I mean a stone larger than 2.5 cts.

I'm hoping to see a mix of results, and I find I get torn between a bunch of shapes. I just love them all! lol.

If you have inspiration pictures or a favourite larger stone/larger ring, let's see them too. I love pictures!!!

PS - poll allows up to three choices. ;-)

I'm the lone mq shape vote. Ugh this is just perfection to me.

In general I far prefer fancy shapes to rounds when the stones get really big.

I've always liked fancy shapes because I thought they were more artistic (have 2 marquise, a pear, and a cushion).

However my new round brilliant way outperforms my pear so maybe my new answer is RB?

This is delicious in my opinion:

Cflutist - I'm a big fancy girl at heart too, and that pendant is pretty darn delicious.

Niel - I love that marquise too. My mother has a large-ish marquise stone. I wish she would wear it more often. It's quite a unique shape, and very flattering.

I guess I am boring but I love the RB. It's classic and I love stacking it with everything else.

I'll have to go along with M-2-B and Mayk....emerald cuts, cushions, and asschers. The first two are on my future wishlist but I doubt I can have more than one!

I am with you Niel, I like the looks of a large MQ as well. I have a pic saved somewhere of a nice fat Tiffany with side baguettes that makes me swoon. I also still love a large pear and RB as well.

I don't think that I could pick just one. I would go with a pear, marquise, or round-all old cuts, of course!

I hope to upgrade my 1.11ct EC to a 2.50ct or larger EC someday. I also love cushions and will definitely explore that option when I upgrade. I didn't pick asscher in the poll, though I love them too. Hoping my 2.98 asscher sapphire satisfies that itch forever :naughty:

If I were to choose a second shape, it would be a cushion.

And I would dearly love a 5ct+ heart shape stone for a pendant!

For a large stone, I voted pear or oval - I'm yearning for a pear diamond necklace similar to that HW above... swwooon!

Definitely a fancy and not a round, a step cut in a large stone is preferable since you can see all the sharp lines and on/off contrast of the steps, however I like elongated shapes with higher crowns. Rectangular cushion?

Emerald, cushion and oval. And of course OEC. But I love them all and wouldn't say no to anyone of them if I had the opportunity. Mainly I love old cuts with chunky facets. Which reminds me someone has a gorgeous chunky old cut pear so include that in my list please. I cannot limit it to just 3 sorry!!!! :cheeky:

Steps (emerald/asscher) or cushion are my votes. Steps especially you can go quite large and have it be totally wearable and chic. Amal Clooney wears a 7+ carat emerald and it doesn't look a tad too big at all

Niel- my cousin wears a 3.35 mq and it's breathtaking, although I find pear, marquise, and oval appealing in around 2 carat range

Asscher and specifically not even an asscher, an Octavia! I'll take a 9x9 of one of those bad boys any day! I've even been tempted to buy a fakey just to play with but I can't bring myself to spend money on one lol.

Simply put, an elegant and classy EC. It is so easy to rock them in huge sizes.

I bet it is! Ive owned the two largest mqs I've seen in real life. They were .9 ct and 1.5 ct

Everyone around here who has one has them in the .3-.5 range.
