Unfortunately, my finger size is much bigger than hers (finger lipo anyone? 
) but I ideally want to see bling covering the entire finger!...a true 3 stone look if you will, not just little accent stones. So, what are your thoughts for the size of the side stones? Thank you so much!

Hiya! Who are you working with honey?
I think someone can do a mock up for you. I'm my phone so... a bit limted. But if you are working with a vendor already, they should be able to pull different sizes for you to put next to a stone of your same size (if they don't have your stone) and that would be the easiest and best way to make the decision. Just send them Logan's ring and ask them to suggest sidestone sizes and snap pics for you of the options. |

Also, I have another question: my center is an IGI graded H color. Since IGI is not very strict with grading, it could technically be an 'I' or even a J color by GIA or AGS standards. Who knows?! Might I be able to get away with 'I' or 'J' color side stones, to save a bit of money? I've never been very color sensitive, but obviously I don't want it to look like a mismatch or weird either. I'm not sure how much the side stones have to match the center. Thoughts? Many thanks.

Gypsy, I'd like to work with BGD (love Lesley!). JA seems to have a tiny bit lower prices though and they've got a 5% off discount on their True Hearts stones currently. But I need to find the right side stones first! |

LS' ring is gorgeous
 I'd agree that having the vendor find you some sides might be the easiest and cheapest route. It'd be hard to match sides for colour without a much better idea of what colour your IGI H really is by GIA/AGS standards, and some pairs with some proportions may look better in terms of cut/light return than others (and since you're looking for larger sides this might actually be important, whereas if you wanted 10pointers or something it's kinda a non-issue I think!) Then there are the other advantages to having the vendor source the sides - you avoid outside stone setting fees, and since you're looking for significant stones the vendor might be able to be a bit more flexible on total pricing of sides plus settings...  ETA with 5.2mm sides

Can you afford two half carat sides? That would be killer. The true 50% ratio would be about 40 point sides I think, since your stone faces up like a 85 point rb.
BTw When I was thinking of doing a three stone a while back, Marie at good old gold was kind enough to send me photos of that Unique mount and it is WONDERFUL! I will see if I can dig them up for you. |

Thanks D, that would be awesome! My budget for the stones is around $1,800 or so. I think I will have to stay under the half carat mark unfortunately. However, I can probably get to around .43 to .45 if I go with I color/SI clarity. That's not too much of a difference compared to .50, right? |

No difference at all, and I bet you can easily do I color with your stone, maybe J. Remember, the overall look will not be affected much by a few tenths of a mm in horizonal coverage, so persoanlly I would not kill myself to get over half a carat

So one vendor found me a really nice pair of Js. There are also some I color options in my budget. Would you do two J side stones with an H center? What about one J with one I? If the ring were I-H-J would the color difference among the three be obvious? I'm not sure if it would be "mind clean" for me, but if it looked good I could be convinced probably.

You said your cert is IGI, so your diamond is not an "H"
 I think you should see the J's in person and compare them, loose. OR take your stone to a trusted jeweler and compare to some GIA/AGS I or J color stones.

I will definitely do that. What if on the off chance it actually is a true H though? (Slim chance but you never know!  ) I'm hoping that since the Js are smaller, they won't look that much different from the center. Crossing fingers.

You likely won't be able to tell the difference. I can see a slight difference between my 0.35ct G and 0.35 ct I color stones, so even in those little sizes body color does show. But you need to see to know.

I'm glad someone else likes a 2:1 ratio besides me! I was starting to think I was the only one out there... With your color question- I've committed another PS sin and my stones are not matched at all in terms of color. My center is an E and the sides are Hs (all GIA). If I hold my ring up to my eye, I can see a color difference, but it's not that obvious. If I'm looking at the ring on my finger from a casual glance, I can't see anything. How much of the stones will you be able to see with your setting from the side? I can try to take some pics of the side view, if that would help. |

Hi, LS--so glad you chimed in! I can't even tell at all that your center and sides are different colors. It makes me feel better to go with the J's.  Yes, I would love to see a side view of your gorgeous ring if you can. Thanks!

Here it is in overcast outdoors lighting. I can see a color difference, but really only if it's in such a magnified viewing. Looks like one of my trellis bits is starting to get worn

Yes, Quest made it. The sidestones used to be earrings, which is why the colors don't match.

LS I don't think I've ever seen the profile of your ring - it's lovely!!
I can see the colour difference in that photo, because I know to look for it, but not at all in the face-up one you posted earlier. Laila I do think going lower-coloured with the sides because they're smaller is a good idea - better an H center and J sides than a J centre and H sides... A couple of other things to think about - do you want the sidestones to tuck under the center, or not so much? My threestone had the sides tucking under pretty far - I liked the look on my finger, but it definitely reduced the spread across the finger! Also, how high do you want the sides set? Higher sides compared to the center makes them look more significant, but also reduces the spread across the finger, in my experience. 6.24/4.4mm 6.24/4.8mm 6.24/5.2mm

Thanks for the pics, Yssie! I think I prefer the middle one best, which is good, since the stones I found are about 4.9 mm! I think I like them set all the same height, or at least pretty close.

I too love a 2:1 ratio. One of my first three-stone loves is the Tiffany version, which is a 2:1 ratio. |

Don't judge that mount by the mockups on Unique's setting, though. It is awesome in real life photos. I would buy it totally in a second. I can't find the pictures I was sent, I think I deleted them
