Hello All,

I am new to this site, but I would really appreicate any feedback on this.

My husband just purchased a Marquise diamond with the following minutiae:

1.64 ct
E
SI1
11.6 x 6.18 x 4.01 mm
64.9 - Depth
53.0 - Table
14.7 Crown
45.5 - Pavilion
Medium to Thick Faceted
Good - Polish
Good - Symmetry
0 - Fluorescence
0 - Cutlet

This was graded by the EGL. My husband paid $7695, but the EGL states the retail price is over $19,000. Based on the details above, how would you rate this diamond? Was this a good purchase or did he get taken for a ride? From an expert standpoint, is that retail price feasible, and going forward, should we trust a grading from the EGL?

Thanks so much for your help.

I am so mad I found this site AFTER my husband purchased the diamond.

Regards,
Ewan

A quick look says its roughly a 2b cut.
Going here:
https://www.pricescope.com/RepScope.asp
Putting in 2b and Marquise brings up 5544 and 6256 per ct as the low and high.
so: $9092 and $10256.

So my guess is that it would likely score lower than a E-si1 from gia but is priced right for what it is.

Oh my, I didn''t know there were different EGL''s! Well, I went to eglusa.com, typed in my report number and it gave me the ring dimensions. Is there a particular EGL I should go to? My husband bought the ring in New Jersey.

Thank you so much for your help.

Which egl?
The price seems reasonable.

Oh, and the diamond looks beautiful, but to an untrained eye, any diamond will look beautiful!! That''s why I''m glad to have your help.

So basically, it''s a crappy ring, but we didn''t get over-charged for it. Well, thank God for small miracles. LOL...

1 last question, do you think that retail price of $19,000 is true?

It looks like GIA''s standards are more strict than EGL''s so that may be questionable. I so wish I''d have found this site sooner. Thanks again for your help.

egl-usa is usualy pretty close.
Even if its a G-si1 the price is good and the cut good.
A g-si1 is by no means crappy.
You got a good deal.
If it looks good and you love it then no worries.
The $19000 is not realistic.

Yeah, I knew that $19K was unrealistic. You''ve made me feel much better about the purchase though. I can''t thank you enough for your help. Take care.
