What happened to all the scroll work on the top in the drawing? I thought that really made the ring -- it's going to be there right? They just couldn't render it in the CAD?
CADs always look a little chunky, but if you're going for a wide band, I'd go for a semi-bezel rather than prongs because I remember that you work in a lab, and the semi-bezel will protect the diamond better and fit under gloves. But this would mean that the band would probably taper (biggest in the middle, narrower at the sides). Another option: You can round the band and make it less chunky. The scrollwork can be more all-over rather than side-top-side. I think what's adding to the bulk is the squareness of the shank. Last option (if you want it to pop more): Keep the scroll work on the sides but make the shank pinch in near the diamond. You're going to have to sacrifice some of the scroll detail on the top, but perhaps this could be repositioned farther down the shank. HTH. |

I was thinking that the elements in the drawing next to the stone are missing in the CAD, and this can be throwing you off.
My first thought on seeing the design is how well it will work under gloves. I'm in the middle of a nasty winter here, and I'll only wear nice flat rings like that one due to putting gloves on and off all day. You really don't want to set the diamond higher. It is great where it is. I'd also suggest a semi-bezel. I think it will look a bit better than prongs, and give a better flow once the viney elements that go up the sides are back in the design. |

I agree, round the band and taper it more towards the center. And are the vines and work on the top of the ring being added by hand afterward? Is that why it's not on there? Cause I agree that was the heart of the design.
And I think the band should be thinner where it meets the diamond. So that the girdle of the diamond bows outward and so the diamond sets on the metal.... Like this: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/sholdt-jewelry/rings/21ZZ1/ I think the metal should look like this. Then add in the gallery detail and the top design. |

Love the side view but I also agree its a little wide. If they can make it taper more as it leads up to the stone
I think it would look nicer. |

Thanks, everyone!
Yes the engraving could not be done in the CAD; but it will definitely be in the final piece. I really like the suggestion of the round band. I am not a fan of bezel or semi-bezel settings so hopefully I can keep the prongs. |
