You could contact Good Old Gold, Winfields (Wink Jones), and Nice Ice. They are online vendors who deal with high quality goods, but have B&M stores so they work with a variety of suppliers. Whiteflash has small ACA melee, but from what I understand, they only sell it as part of jewelery they put together. Check out the vendors section of this website as a place to start. I think those three could definately do something for you though! Just be sure to let them know the parameters your looking for and make it clear you want high quality (maybe ideal) cuts.
I agree that Si quality would be appropriate for stones that size. Heck, for most people, it is good for larger diamonds. If your uncomfortable with that, go to VS as a compromise! Good luck! |

Well, From IF to SI2 there is quite a range. Most diamonds talked about on pricescope go from around 1ct to about 3. You will find allot of comments about "eye clean" and what those grades mean and so forth... but this does not necesarily applies as is to either much smaller or much larger diamonds. SI2 melee has inclusions comparable in size with the diamonds themselves. In pave this shows as a "haze" or lack of brilliance. Besides, included melee will probably not be as well cut with all those inclusions in the way. VS sounds safe, better... well, just better. A similar logic applies to color: it may not show in one small diamond dot, but put 100 one next to the other and there will be a difference between D/E and I/J. And it is harder to find well cut melee than clean and colorless. If you are making a custom pendant, perhaps the jeweler making it would be the best source of diamonds ? Some inevitably get lost during setting and it may be easier for the jeweler to factor this in the total price than it is for you. Just my 0.2, of course. You can always ask what "SI2" means for melee size and get some clarification from the sellers. After all, these diamonds are not graded by a lab, only your trust matters. |

Have you ever seen melee loose this size? They are very tiny.
VS grade is probably more than adequate. You probably want the lot to be conssitent for a piece like you are describing. $2 per stone is way low for full cut melee if it is indeed full cut. Dirt Cheap Diamonds and Signed Pieces are he best place I have come across for melee. Expect about $500 to $1000 per carat for full cut depending upon the clarity and color grade. The Signed Pieces stuff is very good VVS/VS F/G grade. DCDs is VS G, I believe. GOG can supply as well. What are you planning to do about mounting? It will be labor intensive to mount all of those stones in a piece. |
