Hi All,

So my ring has been shipped and expected to arrive her in Australia on Monday so im pretty excited.

Here are the glamour shots provide by BGD, what do you guys think

Will do Gypsy il get hand shots up once i pop the question. Trying to plan a nice weekend away for her and do it as a surprise and try to be at little romantic, which is not my best attribute I also need to ask the father for his permission too.

dont forget about the taxes that are going to be charged before they will release it from FEDEX or which every shipping company was used. I think Arkieb has already mentioned those to you in another post.

Yea i have emailed BGD to make sure they send the correct paperwork.

I will haveto pay 10% gst but hopefully not 5% duty.

from memory, the charges will be something like:
What you paid for the ring and shipping fee in USD (converted to AUD) + $AUD75 for the customs handling fee. it is thereabouts depending on the cost of the item i believe.. Then, add the 10% GST on top of all of that..... that is, in my opinion, still a far better deal that what you can get here in AUS; from what i have seen and read on here. in AUS, there is rarely a vendor that will talk that cut is king.. Well done and i see that Gypsy has helped you... she is just awesome!!!!

Hi Hogster

I have had a few dealings with BGD so I know they will have all the correct paperwork in the front sleeve. However customs seem to always miss the AUSFTA form which excludes you from paying the 5% duty portion. So I would actually email BGD and ask for the all the paperwork that way when customs rings you, you will be able to provide anything they request without further delay.

The ring is beautiful btw, she is going to love it and however you propose. Good luck with the plans and please come back and share pics once received.

Wow Hogster, I remember your story from back in August when you were searching for the perfect cushion. The ring came out Gorgeous!
I love the setting too! I cannot wait to see it on her finger. Please post finger shots in show me the bling thread once she says yes and its on.

Thank you all so much for the kind words and help you have given me. I hope she likes it now and wont be disappointed with it as she has said that she wants to pick the ring herself as i will pick one that she wont like. Fingers crossed she's wrong on this.

I agree with the others you need to ask if Brian Gavin has a copy of the paperwork they can email you as well OR the tracking numbers so that when the parcel arrives you are one step ahead of customs. Once the package lands phone them and tell them you know the correct AUSTFA forms are strapped to the front of the parcel and demand that someone check. I think it is better to have a copy of them yourself because they can be lazy and will argue they cannot find them (they do this, so they can intentionally charge you the full 15% because they have so much red tape most people give up and do not try and claim back the 5%). If you have a copy of the forms electronically no-one can argue with you - you just send them a copy + reiterate they are strapped to the front of the box.

I have had them claim they could not find them several times and they have always been taped to the front of the box. So I have a particular love hate relationship with customs.

Hi All,

Once again thank you for all your help and guidance it is very much appreciated.

Thought id give an update:

So after stressing that ring would make it here in one piece and on time, fedex were great help as i needed to get the ring to a vault before they closed. The vault shut at 5pm but the nice people there waited for me to finish work at 5 and catch a train to the city. Fedex delivered the package at about 4.20pm so i didnt really have time to look at the ring in great detail but it looks stunning and much nicer than expected Jamie at BGD was so nice and pulled out all the stops and i think she will love it.

My only very tiny gripe is the arrows are not as clear as i was expecting and i dont think can be seen with naked eye, if someone can elaborate on this? Its a hearts and arrows cut and i was hoping the arrows would be clearly seen?

Now its time to put plan into place. I have been going over and over my head on how to propose, seaplanes but she hates water, helicopter flight but she may not like that either so ive come up with the following:

Bank holiday weekend (2 weeks away)
- wake her up early tell her ive planned a surprise trip get up pack your bags.
- drive 2 hours from Sydney to hunter valley
- stay in the Chateau elan 5 star spa resort.
- be collect by Range rover from hotel for private tour to 2 vineyards for wine and cheese tasting then be collected taken to secluded vineyard for private picnic. Have flowers organised and i have picked a rose that the petal part hides the ring. During the picnic give here the roses and tell her look closely and find the rose with the ring and pop the question.
- be collected from picnic and go for chocolate tasting and be dropped back to hotel for dinner having the hotel put rose petals and wine ready for when we arrive back.
- the next day book her in for a massage.

Hoping its nice an romantic im trying my best so any help appreciated

Plans have already changed. Ive now decided to book flights to Melbourne and surprise her the night before but not let her know where we are going. Then stay in crown tower hotel/casino and book us into a spa massage and pop the question there. Also upgrading to crystal club room package so wish me well everyone less than 2 weeks to go

Hi All thought id update you on where im at.

Plans are all set in place and im ready to pop the question this Saturday and my nerves are starting to hit ha.

The plans are as follows:

Saturday afternoon about 1pm here sister ( who has helped with alot plans) will ask her to get the train to city for an erin.

When shes gets to train station she will give my partner a picture with a clue written on the back (its a scavenger hunt) where il give here clues along the way and rules she must follow.

First stop to go get a teddy.
Next stop to get her nails done
Then to Irish shop here in Australia buy some treats
Then to music shop but a cd - song she says wants to walk down aisle to one day
Then to a cheapy ring/jewellers shop to trick her into thinking getting a ring there haha
Next to hard rock cafe for food and cocktail with her sister which by that time it will be almost dark 6pm or so.

While all this is happening me and her sisters partner will be setting up lanterns and fairylights and LED candles in centennial park in romatic spot beside water and trees.

Her sisters partner will then collect her and bring her to the park and blind fold her. Il meeet walk her in and remove blindfold and pop the question under all the lights we setup with champagne at the ready and i hope she'll be shocked an say yes ha.

We will then go for some dinner with her sis an partner.

The following morning surprising her and flying us to melbourne to stay in 5star crown towers hotel/casino for 2 nights (bank hol weekend) and enjoy some R&R after my months of planning.

Great idea, I can see it either being totally funny or going totally wrong that is all and I you have gone to so much effort to make it perfect I don't want anything to go wrong for you Maybe a box that looks like a ring box with the pendant in it - so there is no confusion with what she ends up with from there, but it is still funny.
