Here is my question is it possible to get that ring but have them take the halo part off?

Who is the person selling that ring? i know pearl mans but is there someone on PS that it is?

No, the setting cannot have the halo taken off. It is best to get a setting like you want. That setting is worth a lot and it would be crazy to pay to remake it. The Scott Kay will be cheaper than buying that one and trying to have it remade...which I don't think could be done well, anyway.

Yes, if you look at the thread I posted first, you can see the PS member who is selling it, MrsSalvo. Oh, and it is just a ring she got and decided she wanted something different. It was hardly worn. So there is nothing bad behind it like a broken engagement or anything else. She is very happily married!

I contacted the estate company and they willl not just sell the diamond..

Did you speak with Julian? If you are interested, please call back because I am not sure that everyone working there would know the specific wishes of the owner of the ring. I know she is willing to take offers on the stone alone and you have to speak with Julian.

Re: Back to the drawing board... Looking to purchase a cushi

Here is the reason you simply cannot look for cushions at vendors who do not provide pictures:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1497192.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1441769.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1405003.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1465430.asp

Some are just plain ugly and you HAVE to eliminate those from pictures. Note that they are all called "ideal".

I just said that because you had mentioned another vendor who is pretty much a drop-shipper and doesn't have the stones in-house.

I think cushions are one of the hardest shapes to buy because they differ SO much!

Thank you for letting me know that about that company.

Oh i know this has really not been that easy, in between me being so picky/ difficult etc.

I have atleast comprised a nice email to myself comparing all the stones to try and narrow it down..

I am excited to see the aset images for all five of the stones i requested from JamesAllen, I spoke to the manager today.

I really like the 1.66 K IF stone and the asset image looks good and the stone faces up LARGE.

The GOG stones are honestly all gorgeous I will post my info i have to remind myself per diamon in a few.

NOTE FOR SELF.
When looking at the asset images
ASET shows where a diamond gathers its light.

Blue is blocked by the observer (some blue adds contrast)
Red is best: most light comes from above –from the ceiling
Green is OK; it is reflected and from windows, but red is better
White shows how much leakage is present (bad, especially when the leakage is adjacent to blue; when you will see a large dead dark zone in normal lighting)

How to read the DiamXray (images that are just red and whiteish)

Good deal!
Message from gemologist on this one" The ASET is very nice.

The four prongs look of the setting will help square it off. It's a personal preference. The faceting is NOTHING like a round brilliant and it works with the setting you've chosen-- chunky but still modern-- perfectly. Plus the price on it is great." &

It is absolutely NONE of my business.. but I would like to COMMEND the good people of PS "our experts" for tirelessly helping you... I was amazed after all the help in round 1 you picked up an EGL diamond. I sincerely hope you are able to find something that makes your heart sing and your fiance's heart too... but I have to tell you it's a good thing I'm no expert.. you would have worn me out. :errrr:

Gypsy, DS, Christina and many more that have tried to help.. you people are saints!!! All the wealth of knowledge and you still keep studying post after post from this gentleman. You people ROCK! :appl: I'm tired just following this thread...

I don't know a thing about Cushions.. but Mrssalvo's or that 1.66 K are both amazing.. can't wait to see the finished product...Best of luck.. I hope you don't wear them out before you find "the one".

And, why are there stones in that list with no pictures? Is James Allen sending the pictures to you?

(To mayk, I don't know about Gypsy, but I think it is time for the list to be narrowed to 3. There are stones on the list that can be eliminated. Like this:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1498411.asp :knockout:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Good-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1498464.asp :knockout:

I totally agree and I'm no expert.. that stone is very unattractive... (was that nice enough?) :halo:

Okay, I have gone through those stones and there are two that I would personally purchase for an engagement ring like you have selected.

antique style: http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/8584/

I think with a milgrain vintage setting, the antique cut would be best and I am okay with lower color in antique style stones with larger facets. I like this better than the James Allen K IF.

modern: http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/8890/

I personally wouldn't go below I color in a modern cushion because I believe you will see a tint to the stone and it will look less bright. We generally recommend I color or higher for stones such as princess cut for the same reason.

I would also still consider MrsSalvo's cushion if you decide on a modern cushion.

I cannot express my appreciation for each and every one of you for your time and help with this journey.

Obviously this is easier for some people so for you to stick with it and keep answer questions for me once again I thank you.

JamesAllen is getting all of the aset images together for these stones for me. Maykay I agree those two stones you :knockout: can be taken off of the list but considering they are getting the asset images on them I kept them.

The GOG diamonds are fantastic trust me but I feel there are a few from james allen as well that can be just as good for instance that 1.66 IF and is potentially cheaper.

ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU ALL SO SO MUCH. Please don’t think that you are not appreciated.

I have been in communication with them on this and has anyone seen this stone other then Mrs Salvo? Is it eye clean? it is an si2

I am trying to get exact pricing on the stone and obviously comparing to see if its comparable to the market

Does this site give a good idea of what the cost of the diamond should be?

It appears to have great cut AND I love the stats (which often aren't the end all be all). I like the mid 60's depth and mid 50's table on cushions usually, and I just sold a cushion myself with very similar stats (although mine was more square.) That smaller table makes a difference, IMHO and I'm partial to them.

You can do a search here for MrsSalvo, but I pulled up a quick one for you.

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/good-things-come-to-those-who-wait-my-daniel-k-is-here.86927/

You can see some better pics of the faceting there. MrsS is a pretty long time member, and pretty picky, so she definitely would choose the best for herself.

Also re: prices...

With cushions, it is really, really hard. You can have the same stats when it comes to color and clarity, and the same symmetry/polish grades but have two totally different stones when it comes to beauty. I would prioritize what is most important to you and then go from there.

Thank you for your post. I spoke to Julian today and put in an offer on the diamond based upon all of the research i have done on comprable stones, it is truely gorgeous!

I feel confident that once i get teh aset images from JamesAllen I will have this large list down to 3.

I just want the BEST for my better half and doing everything i can to do it with such wonderful people from PS.

Yes, I agree. You have different types of cushions including a designer one (Daniel K) and a specialty cut (AVC), and of course, color and clarity will always influence the price.

MrsS's stone is eyeclean and being a Daniel K cushion, it will be one of the better cuts.

Honestly I am really loving the Daniel K stone, if i can get it for the right price I truly think that is my first choice.

are my next two favorites.

If the Daniel K cushion is available separately, just buy that. I wouldn't look further. It's a beauty. If it isn't, buy the K IF and have it sent to you and see it in person.

That would be my order of preference.

Hi hotskate! I may have missed it somewhere, but has your gf expressed a preference as far as the type of cushion that she likes? I ask because the cushions that you are looking at are all over the board as far as types of cushions. You said at the beginning of the thread you wanted a modern, more squarish cushion, and you are looking at some that are antique looking (AVCs), and some that are rectangular (the Daniel K cushion you made the offer on is rectangular, along with some of the others that you linked). Is modern and squarish her preference? If so, I would narrow your search to modern, squarish cushions. If you're not sure what her preference is, I would check with her for sure! That would definitely help you focus your search, and ensure that you end up choosing a diamond that she loves. Just my opinion (which really doesn't matter ;-) ), but for the setting that she chose, I think a more squarish/rounded antique cushion would look best. Or, if she likes modern cushions, a more squarish/rounded one. I hope that helps! :))

Thank you so much for your reply, It honestly is more about the whole diamond as a whole i know that sounds generic but its true.

The Daniel K is gorgeous it truly is. She does like more squarish but i think she would honestly LOVE the Daniel K.

The AVC i think will not work due to my fear of the color honestly.
