Karl, Garry, etc.... I''m purchasing that 1.72 from James Allen but I''m wondering if I''ll miss the WOW factor from a 2ct. especially since Asschers face up small. What do you think of this one? I have it on hold. I''ve requested the Sarin and IS.

Also, do you think it''s worth going down in color from F to G and paying an extra $6K for jump to 2ct?

Thanks as always!!!

Shape: Asscher

Cut: Ideal

looks ok so far its close to being a drop style are you ok with that style in a 2ct?
Windmills are a bit uneven even taking account the tilt but they aren't to bad.

Get an IS and CH

Good morning Karl

what''s the difference in the drop style and say the wide step? I''ve seen you post about this before. How does it translate in real life in regards to the look of the stone?

1.72 is a wide step and the pictures show the difference, larger dark zone under the table in the 2.02.
A larger dark zone is a good thing in small sizes as they make the patterns pop but 2ct is right on the edge for some people where it becomes to much.

I''m not an expert but I prefer the pattern of the 1.72.

With the different tilts and different lighting it is tough to compare but the difference is in the areas the arrow point to.
Notice how the dark zone is much bigger on one than the other.

thanks Karl. I wish I could see these in person!

I wish james allen could do a side by side video.

In your opinion... is it worth the extra $6K to bump up to the 2.02ct? This will be THE ring for at least the next 20 years!

Thanks neat... I prefer the 1.72 as well. I''m just a little worried about DSS (again). Like I said above... I don''t want to do anymore upgrades or changes.

p.s. I''ve been looking at old threads and you are so helpful to everybody... you''re a gem

Well thanks! Everyone was so helpful to me when I was looking, I''m just paying it forward.

Is there a reason that you NEED to buy one of these two? Can you wait for a slightly bigger stone with the better pattern? In asschers it is all about the pattern IMO.

Remind me whats the mm difference?
I am really the wrong one to ask what I would personally do because $6k to me is 2 cars.
The dollar difference really has to be a personal choice because everyone looks at it in different ways.

Thanks so much for the visual. You have been so helpful to me the past few years (I used to post under a different username) and I appreciate you!

Your welcome!!!
asschers are among the hardest diamonds to buy online.
Sometimes you just have to go for it if everything looks ok and rely on the return policy if you don''t like it.

Agreed - it''s all about the patterns and the polish for me! Well, I can wait I suppose but I''m doing a wire transfer in the morning for the 1.72. I don''t want to miss out on it because I think it''s a pretty spectacular stone especially with the pricescope discount and the bank wire discount. Even Leon M. said it was beautiful - he will be setting it for me. I can always return it if it gets here and I want to go a little bigger.

Maybe I''m just getting hung up on size.

Visible difference ... hmmmmm
Money no object if the 2.02 was cut in the style of the 1.72 I would go for it.
But looking at the pictures I personally would go for the 1.72

I will have it custom cut to my specs :}
There are several good vendors that I would buy from and each has their plus and minuses and I don't think it is fair to call one a favorite.
I will say who I have bought from and that is Jon(gog), Wink(winkjones.com) and Gary(diamondexpert.com)but like I said there are others.
When it comes to asschers it often comes down to advantage: gog information and video, JA selection with pics but it is hard at times to separate out the top stones from the data JA is willing to provide.

Custom cut to your rigorous specs?! Absolutely!

Having seen some of your own designs, Karl, that Wifey2b diamond should be spectacular!
