Are My Eyes Pulling Tricks on Me? Q on ...Symmetry?

Hi,

I've got this picture of a GIA 3X diamond.
Light performance images exhibit optimum light return.

Qs:
1. Is it just me or the crown looks slightly off?
2. If the crown indeed looks slightly off, what is it?
3. Can a GIA 3X stone look like this?
4. It's a .8 stone, will this be visible (esp. once mounted)?
5. If #4 is yes, how much will it impact the diamond's beauty?

Look forward to hearing from you all.
Thanks!

1. Hard to tell from just that pic, but maybe?

2. It almost looks like the girdle is at a very very slight angle. But from just one pic I can't conclude anything.

3. Have to defer to experts on this, I don't know enough about the stringencies of achieving excellence in symmetry at the GIA.

4. Would need more pics- maybe ask the vendor if they see anything weird?

5. If LP is optimal with ASET and it's set properly, I'd guess not too much? Again, not even sure my guess about the girdle is correct so I could only speculate without more pics. Hopefully someone more experienced than me will chime in!

What I see is that when looking at the left side of the crown it slopes down from the girdle in a nice straight line. Looking at the right side of the crown it doesn't slope down in a straight line, rather it sort of curves down from the girdle.

It almost looks like the lower girdle length could be ever so slightly longer on the right.

In the image shown, the right side of the crown compared to left side of the crown looks wonky to me.

Hi guys,

I think it's just the angle of the diamond when it was photographed.

On the left side you're seeing a Bezel facet that's angled so that it's flat towards the camera. A bezel facet can take up 1 whole angle of the crown if caught at exactly the right angle.

On the right side, it's upper girdle and star facet that are angled towards the camera. These three facets meet at about the middle of the crown so it's normal for there to be two angles there (a slight bulge) when viewed from the the side.

Good luck OP

That is a really helpful explanation of what we're seeing.

Looking at a diagram of crown anatomy I can see what you're describing.

Thank you!

Ah... that makes sense...
I thought it was the case of crown angle variation or table & girdle not parallel.
Somehow the left side seems slightly taller than the right side, but maybe that's just an optical illusion since the bezel facet forms a straight line whereas star + upper girdle facets form an extra angle?
