Anybody has a pear shaped diamond?

There are actually a lot of posts about pears... but they are kinda lost. Ish.

ANYWAY. They are popular on here as pendants but they are kinda hard to shop for compared to rounds... but not really when you compare them with other fancies.

I ADORE pear pendants and rather desperately want one myself... so I totally get the appeal. You can't buy them with the numbers you have to buy them with your eyes, and your vendor's eyes.

What's hard to judge with pears is the bowtie effect... here are some links to get you started.

Apparently it's not as popular as RB or Cushion cut. I tried to do a little research on pear shaped diamonds, but I don't see many resources/topics about it. (I guess fancy shapes are never as popular.) I'm not quite sure about the idea. I would like to know more beyond basics I learned here. Does anyone know where I can find a good tutorial about pear shaped diamonds? Also, if you have a piece of pear shaped jewelry, would you mind sharing a few pictures?

Gypsy is absolutely right, you can't buy a pear by numbers although the numbers do give you a place to start as they are guidelines only, but your own eyes and images are essential. ASET images in particular are very useful and detailed photographs are also helpful.

Also important to decide is what shape of pear you want, for example, a short chubby pear or a longer, thinner, teardrop shape. My taste in pears runs towards the latter.

Pears do have their fans, I own one myself and love it. If you find one which is well cut, they can make spectacular pendants.

I would work with a vendor that can supply the above images that either has the stone in house, or can source one for you to your requirements. Gypsy mentioned bow ties which most elongated fancy shapes can show, this is another reason why it is important to work with a trusted vendor that can inspect the diamond for you, they will be able to advise how much of a bow tie a particular pear has. You can't always get away from bow ties entirely, but they can show in some pears more than others. Also with colour, sometimes in slightly lower colour grades you might be able to detect a hint of warmth in the tip of a pear. My GIA graded H colour pear shows a tiny hint of warmth in some lighting in the tip, it doesn't bother me at all but it is something just to be aware of depending on which colour grade you choose.

Here is a very useful shape selector you can play with to see how the various length to width ratios can alter the shape of a pear.

GOG and Engagement Rings Direct both have a great eye for fancies and have picked some amazing stones. I would go with one of those two. They are both in NY and have storefronts so you can see the stones in person, which is always the best way to chose.

Ditto Gypsy, you could definitely start with GOG and ERD to see what they can source for you, plus they can provide images to help you choose.

Do you have any concrete ideas on what you are going to do with the design? Something like FancyDiamond's necklace? What size stone do you want to work with? Recently I met someone IRL that has a necklace very similar to FD's, and it is STUNNING. I keep meaning to ask her where she got it, but dont want to be rude, you know? It is seriously gorgeous though. And what's odd is that I never really liked pears until I saw it on her...So then I started doing some research on here and found FD's necklace, which is very similar, and I really love it. So its saved in my inspiration folder...maybe one day!!!! It just looks so beautiful on! Very eye catching!!!

As far as vendors, I worked with Mark at ERD who is absolutely wonderful, and I have also worked with Yekutiel and Luann at ID Jewelry who are amazing. I would contact both and see what they can come up with.
