I need your opinion on an OEC. It is an Old World Diamonds stone, OWA11755, 1.39 carat Q-R SI2 with a 7.19 spread for less than $4k (you can find it by sorting by color and going to the last page, links to OWD don't work right for me). Girdle is medium to slightly thick, and polish is very good, and symmetry is good. It says it has medium blue fluor, which would be kind of cool. :cheeky:

Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXXeS5tOoLQ

Please just tell me that this diamond is too low in color and clarity, or has ugly faceting, or something bad, so that I can stop obsessing about it. ***OR, somebody else buy it so it's off the table!*** I can't get a new stone for another year or so ;( unless I win the lottery (or my dad cashes out some Apple stock for me! ).

I don't like it because the culet isn't nearly big enough for my tastes. That's about all the negative I could come up with. Perhaps imagine that the Q/R plus med blue fluoro would make it a weird, yucky, spoiled milk color?...

It has a large table, 62%, so I would pass on it for that.

Yeah, I like the bigger cutlets too, but it seems awfully pretty... :cheeky:

Old diamonds are cut differently than modern cut diamonds. They are rather inconsistent in cut style instead of today's basic cookie cutter look for ideal cut round diamonds. I surely know how great these modern diamonds look and work with light, but I have a strong attraction to things which are "different". It is my nature to like the unusual although I sure appreciate the normal things of modernity, too. Possibly you feel the same and wish to buy something swimming a bit against the current. Can't say I blame you for wanting to buy something that may be noticed and have its own character.

The stone in the video may not perform with light like a modern cut AGS000, but it is not an ugly diamond in the video. Maybe you should look at it in person before deciding what you are getting for $4,000. You have to like it no matter how much or how little it costs.

I need to win the lottery for the next round of toys on my agenda, but waiting for someone else to sell Apple stock may not let you go down a new pathway for yourself. I'd say, spend the shipping and take a look.... You can always say no and understand fully why not. That's making progress and will fine tune your eventual decision.

 :angryfire: :appl: We all like out cutlets large and our culets small....Like in veal cutlets and diamond culets! :snore: :lickout:

I agree with what the justginger and junebug have said. Personally, if I were shopping for an OEC, I would keep looking. It looks too modern to me, with the very small culet, large table, and faceting that is closer to a transitional. Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful diamond, but not OEC-ish enough for me, if that makes sense.

It's a pretty stone, I can see why it caught your eye! - but if you're looking for a diamond with an OEC appearance, I'd rather have one with a cute small table.

This one has similar proportions to the IDJ stone that madelise is thinking about in her own thead and I think it might be a little less lively under the table than we like to see. The video shows less "action" in that region that I like to see. But it is worth evaluating more, seeing in person perhaps.

Yeah, I do think I want a more OEC looking stone. I have a 6.5mm OEC cz that I've been playing with (got it mainly for size comparison w/my e-ring) and it has a large cutlet and small table. I am weird and brought it to the gym with me a few days ago to try it in their lighting, and then showed it to my DH in the car on the way home. His reaction? "WOW! Whoa!" and this man is barely interested in diamonds at all, but humors me.

And thank you, David, for taking the time to respond. I do not like modern RBs, at all. They are lovely for other people, but not for me. I didn't know I liked round stones until I saw an OEC, in all its imperfect antique glory. And I said the thing about Apple stock because my dad asked me to research the gift tax, and I was like :-o I tell my sister that our inheritance is going to be entirely Apple stock, and then we won't want to sell it. :wink2:

Dreamer, you are posting at the same time as me. Your opinion helps, too. If it's still available in about a year, I might be have to get it just to personally inspect.

It looks like a very nice stone, I agree with Dreamer that from the video it doesn't look *quite* as lively as some other OWD videos. This is just a thought, could be the videography? In justginger's video, which by professional assessment is a knockout stone, the middle doesn't get a chance to light up, it looks like maybe the stone is facing the wrong way or the light is not at the right angle. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=026BGO6tGTw&feature=channel&list=UL) If you look at bright ice's 3.09 and my 2.64 videos, you can see that the facets under the table "light up" nicely (although the rotating table kind of slows down in the middle of mine :) )

At first I didn't care for this style of videography - but now I prefer the indoor office lighting shots. It seems like it is easier to make a stone look nicer if you take it outside or shine fancy spotlights on it. Crappy office lighting seems to make sense as a better litmus test :)

Good luck in your decision!
