Hi Richard & Everybody:

It has been some time..

Rich I recently was given a hand me down from my grandfather who is in his 80''s and told me he was given this ring in his 20''s from a family member.

The stone looks like a cabachon garnet & the gold and wear looks reminicent of maybe late victorian period...What do you guys think?

Yes, I would agree. With a disclaimer that you can't hang your hat on photo ID's, I would say it looks like a nice garnet cab ring circa 1880 of very good manufacture and workmanship, presently in fair to good condition.

Most of those abrasions on the garnet could be polished out without removing the stone.
