I just want to give moral support to all those waiting for their proposal. For some reason around the 3 year mark a demon took over my body and became wedding obsess. I literally felt like I had no control over feeling so upset, jealous, confused...He was smart enough to give me a time line. He said I would have it before 6/24/05 (my 25th b-day). For valentine''s day he surprised me by taking me to the jewelers to buy the setting. He wanted to show me he was serious. A little over a month before his "deadline" after 4.5 years of dating he finally proposed. It was perfect. Basically the point of this is after all the waiting, tears, frustration, you''ll day will come. I promise. I am so glad there are boards like these because during my "break down" I had no one who understood me. My friends and family thought I was crazy and should just calm down. So it is good to know you are not alone and I can''t wait to read all your posts about your proposals!

Long time lurker on PS, but just found this forum tonite! What a coincidence that my BF and I went on our first E-Ring shopping trip this past Sunday (right after we went to see The 40-Year-Old Virgin!)

My boyfriend and I have been best friends since we were 10, and have been seriously dating for almost four years...but must wait until college graduation is a little closer (We don''t want to be engaged for too long in case people start to wonder). Hah, that and the fact that my mother will never realize that I''m old enough to get engaged, even though she loves Joel to death, and knows I''m mature and responsible and living on my own. But gracious, is it frustrating! We''ve been discussing rings for almost a year, and both of us are just so indecisive! We know: White gold, marquise, somehow has dark blue sapphires. (repeating a bit of my post for the "Introduce Yourselves" board...)
After a "boy soon" vs. "girl soon" chat in early spring, we figured out a wedding target of October 2007 and an engagement target of Spring 2006 (in the meantime considering ourselves "betrothed", as we''ve both declared our full intention to wed, just don''t want to get engaged until we''re ready to set the ball in motion). However, he really needs to get his act together as an individual in a lot of ways, so I recently imposed some "space"... he''s made it abundantly clear that this doesn''t change his intentions at all, and he''s determined to prove to me that he''s ready to be all I need him to be (and truly, I''m not expecting anything unreasonable from him, just a little more stability). So... while I''m trying not to think too much about the marriage stuff, and while I''m really not talking about it with him anymore lately, I must admit that I am also pricing settings (I''m willing to pay for the setting if it means he can afford a better rock!) and just bought the huge "The Knot Weddings" magazine. He doesn''t need to know any of this right now, but I''m exactly where he is -- considering this the final stretch of working out the things that absolutely must be worked out before we get engaged, but still, final stretch, very optimistic, still hoping to reach mid-''06 as an engaged lady (to him, of course!).

And, as I said in the other board, we are going to Ireland in May... very romantic... as much as I generally try not to think about the proposal, since that''s the one part that really belongs to him, I can''t help but imagine standing windswept atop some stone tower, seeing how adorable he looks in that Irish sweater I got him a few years ago when I was out there, feeling forever in the air...has to be daytime, of course, so I can call my mom in NY right away!
