My star sapphire

I had this star sapphire ring made a few years ago. I think there is a thread up on it.

Stunning ring fel! I love all of the gemstones in the shank and basket, just beautiful.

Thanks Siameseroo. Each larger petal has a different stone, and the smaller ones alternate with old cut diamonds and sapphires. I think I drove Sally a bit crazy with this, as I was very particular about the individual stones, and I wanted them to be pastel but well-saturated. As it is, I like some of the selections better than others. I sort of regret the yellow sapphires that alternative with the old cut diamonds on the lower petals -- they just look to me washed out. Some of the other stones I love -- for example an orange pink spinel on one longer petal.

I should mention that Sally was amazing about working with me with multiple constraints. For example, at my request the shank is made from the melted down 1940's men's ring that held the star sapphire. This white gold was difficult to work with -- it may have had some platinum or other metal in it that made the melting point higher. Yet she persevered! I am so pleased as I now have a white gold shank that doesn't yellow like modern white gold, and doesn't scratch up like platinum.

The only down side I see when working with Sally is the anxiety of sending one's treasured stones abroad.

Adding my blue sheen moonstone ring! I bought the moonstone from Barry a few years ago and Sally designed this gorgeous bezel setting featuring a traditional Thai design in the basket. The setting is Thai sterling silver. I'm wearing it to my Thai wedding ceremony this weekend!

I've been on hiatus since having a baby and starting a new job. Sally did a wonderful job with sourcing the moonstone and designing, and Pomme did beautiful work. The stone is 7 mm in diameter, and is flanked by diamond melee set in white gold with rhodium plating.

the old setting with pink melee was recycled. Some of the pink melee was used in the reset and the rest are still loose, being 'fostered' temporarily by Sally until we find the right project for them.
