It's OK, Kenny. I've asked the mods to deal with this, and yes it's very intimidating. I wish I hadn't said many times that I have a lot of jewelry that's not on pricescope. I'm sure that no one could know my home address though, so there's that. But maybe they could contact people who know me pretending to be a friend...Oh, man, I'm not going to think that way.

Let's move on. I'm not going to focus on the dangers of the internet. All will be well. I think I'm going to give myself a nice big smile by posting some jewelry on SMTB, which I havn't done for a long time. I have two pretty Maison Birks pieces, (a diamond maple leaf and a diamond swallow,) and an interetsing yellow gold piece.

I'm tired today from working long hours, so I've only been able to read the discussion very briefly, but I do find it interesting. It's such a different world today from when I was young. So great to hear everyone's experiences with the internet and the challenges it poses for young people. I guess it's great IF used VERY wisely, and the trouble with wisdom is that it comes with age!

I might try an app or two myself if I had a smartphone, but I only have a dumbphone. I don't want to use bling money on data!

How is this for a sweet story? Uncle (the infamous bra-shopping uncle!) is in his nineties and has signed up to Snapchat so he can Snap (?) with my GD!! He's going to try to keep an eye on her. They do know each other, BTW. Cute! Can't really imgine him with a face covered in glitter.

I haven't heard from the mods, but I doubt I will, seeing as I briefly chatted to Ella about it when I first noticed it. I don't know your real name or anything like that, but you do have a very particular way of writing and expressing yourself so it's quite easy to "recognise" you, regardless of the screen name you use. ;-)

I don't mean to scare you or intimidate you so I'm really sorry if I did. I struggle with tone/nuance and English is actually my third language, so sometimes things don't quite come out the way they're meant to. I just wanted you to be aware that this is the internet, it is public. Anyone can read these threads. Of course, if you've weighed up all of this and still feel comfortable posting, that's ok too.

That's OK, Trekkie! :wavey: I'm glad you didn't mean to scare me. I'm relieved! I've been stalked in the past so I'm a bit jumpy. Anyway, I obviously remind you of someone. Happy memories, I hope. But just as long as youre not going to come and murder me in my bed, we're good. And I never would have thought your first language wasn't English.

I think you're a newish mom? How is your little baby?

And what would do you think about him or her Snapchatting at 13??

Trust me, when I eventually make it over to the US, the very last thing I'd do would be killing someone! Hello? How are you supposed to go bling ogling when you're in jail??? So no, sorry again for scaring you!

Yeah, my little boy is a year old. I'd probably treat it the same way I treated my younger brother, whom I helped raise. I gave him his first cellphone when he was 10? 11? and worked on a principle of "I'll trust you until you show me you can't be trusted". Seemed to work quite well. He's 22 now and while we did/do have our issues, I've never had to reprimand him for questionable content on his phone or computers. I have the ability to access his pc remotely (he asked me to set it up as I sometimes help him fix it) and when he was still in high school I had a look around once or twice - there really wasn't much to look at. Even his **** was really tame - scantily clad women draped over exotic cars, a few suggestive "Page 3 girl" type pictures, that sort of thing. Of course, he could be hiding the good stuff elsewhere, but he's 22 now so I guess he's allowed to.

Thanks for the compliment on my English. My dad is from Bristol so I was exposed to English from a young age and I use English every day but I'm quite self conscious about it and wish it was better. I particularly struggle with nuance, concord and run-on sentences, lol. I'm applying to do my Masters in Creative Writing in 2018 and part of the application calls for a portfolio in English, which is intimidating as all hell - how do I express myself in one language when my heart feels in another? But anyway, that's next year's worry.

A year old!! Cute! I bet he's an awesome Little Mr. Chubbycheeks! I love them when they're that age - all bouncy and chunky!

Excuse me - I just love babies.

OK, so you've been there, done that, with kids and the cyberspace. Thank goodness your brother didn't give you any trouble. It must be very stressful if you have a child with a rebellious streak.

You express yourself in one language but your heart expresses itself in another? Aww, that's hard! Hug: ((((Trekkie)))). I can't give you any helpful suggestions there, but about your worries with the creative writing and nuance, it seems to me that you could study poetry, since poets are meant to be the masters of language. Shakespeare would too old and flowery I think, and I think some very modern poets use very sparse language. I always liked the Irish poet W.B. Yeats when I was at school. It was not easy but easier to understand than Shakespeare. Reading some of that might give you an idea of the twists and turns and nuances of this language. Just a thought. Perhaps others have ideas too. The only other one I can think of is ee cummings but I think his stuff might be too modern; I don't know it.

Hehe I was just thinking it took a nice turn for the happier! ::)

Jamba, I'm a twenty-something dinosaur.

I have a fakey FB for a PS group. That's it.
My Linked In is completely empty aside from my full name.
I don't have a real FB account.
I didn't have myspace.
I don't have instagram.
I don't have twitter.
I don't have snapchat, or quicktext, or swiftvid, or briskpic, or whatever may come next.
I'll be honest, the idea that thirteen year old kids might have access to these sorts of world-wide ropes unfettered gives me the willies - there are some seriously screwed up people out there just waiting to pounce on low-hanging fruit, and the teenage capacity for idiocy and impulsiveness makes them ripe for the picking ;( I think if I ever have kids I'd be awfully tempted to just microchip 'em and be done with it... we get the Home Again discount anyway

I do, however, correspond regularly with several PSers and have happily gone to PS GTGs, and have made some wonderful friends thanks to this shared hobby! Trekkie is someone I'd love to meet one day as she seems like a total sweetheart ::)

Okay, back to regularly scheduled programming...

I'd never allow my kid snapchat, only because of the 'point' of it in my group - to send nudes/sexy vids and have them immediately deleted. I don't even have it because I'm too paranoid at the creeps at snapchat (who do save EVERYTHING) looking, or people taking screen shots/etc.
I don't think snapchat was invented for this purpose, however I believe it was one of the main pushes when it first came out. Want to send nudes but don't want that creeper to keep em? Use snapchat! etc.

Facebook (afaik) doesn't allow nudity/pornography. Twitter does, if your account is 18+. Instagram says they don't but it's all over it. Snapchat is basically unfiltered.

OK I am obviously living in a closet somewhere because I never even heard of snapchat and have no clue what it is. :???:
Off to look it up but I can already tell it is not something I want to do.
