There is something so pretty about that one! It has such a soft romantic look to it and sparkles all around, if only it was slightly higher color

What's the jeweler's name? I stop by LA fairly frequently and happy to take a look, I wouldn't be interested in purchasing anything from an unknown jeweler without seeing it first.

Gypsy - Are there any ASET/oval examples that you think are great? in any size range

Does this one look good? https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Oval/GIA-Certified-3-01-Carat-G-Color-VVS1-Clarity-Diamond-JQRUY7

I regret not moving faster on http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/3.02-carat-d-color-vs2-clarity-sku-812486 from your first recommendation...

They are called TR Gems in San Gabriel. Give them a call, with most fancy shapes, it is so much easier if you can see and feel the stone.

Not sure if you have already considered, there's also a big difference between "oval brilliant" and "modified oval brilliant". I learned this while shopping for my oval. I believe the oval brilliant will give you the big flashy pattern that you are talking about, they are very brilliant as compared to the "modified" cut which tends to have the "crushed ice" look. They are very sparkly vs the oval brilliant shows a little bit more contrast and brilliance. Of course, I am all new to these, but i think it helps when you see more stones. happy shopping!

Gypsy - Yeah I think I'll probably end up ordering that one and another to compare in person. They weren't able to get a hold of any of the ones you'd picked out to show me last time I was in NY :(

Somethingnew - You're totally right! The stones I liked are all "oval brilliant" rather than "modified oval brilliant".

How's this one? Will the shallow depth/high table mean less colored light return compared to the 3.03?

Not necessarily. Sometimes shallower ovals bowtie more. That one isn't as bright at the ends to my eye. It doesn't light up at the 'points'. I think I prefer the other one. But you have to love it. Maybe you can get both and return one?

I can see the bowtie there....

$72K is not a good price. You should be able to get something similar for less $.

What do you guys think of these? Trying to learn as much as I can before ordering =)

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/3.34-carat-g-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-1077741 (it seems very yellow for a G but also very colorful which I realy liked about the 3.03)

Ovals seem to be priced pretty arbitrarily lol

1. Is nice. I like it.
2. Is largely dead or going to blue out on an ASET.
3. Has a distracting bowtie.

Thank you!

https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Oval/GIA-Certified-3-01-Carat-G-Color-VVS1-Clarity-Diamond-JQRUY7 has been one my favorites for a while =) (wish the video was a little slower!) How does it compare to the 3.07 (if it hadn't sold)? Which would you like more? http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/3.01-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-sku-894849 this one that you had picked out earlier has also been growing on me

What appeals to you about https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Oval/GIA-Certified-3-01-Carat-E-Color-VS2-Clarity-Diamond-Q7439P ? Is the ASET good?

I've noticed on JA most of the ones I liked had 4 main, it doesn't seem like ED has as many of those. Is the ED G/VVS1 stone exceptionally pretty or will it be likely to find something better with more time? Thank you again for all of your help through this!

The G VVs stone is very different from that JA four main. The facet patterns are very different as you know, and so they just have very different looks. And I don't have an ASET on the JA. The only thing that concerns me on that G VVS is the facets at either end of the stone.

As for the one I've said is my favorite (E Vs2). It's just a super bright stone (ASET backs that up) and all of it's facets are so alive it's beautiful on the video of it. Small table, high crown, bright through the center of the stone and the ends. The facets just dance with the light, which is what you want.

Gypsy, do you think the inclusion under the table will be visible on this size stone?

I would ask vendor about this inclusion. Should be fine.

F has potential. Ask for ASET. Keep asking till they get you one.

ED says it's eye clean!

For the JA stone they're insisting that they can't take an ASET unless it's purchased because of where it is, but they can hold it in NY and ship it back if I don't like the ASET. Worth doing it for that one or wait for a better one to come along? I'm thinking if it has a good ASET to get it shipped here and then purchase the ED one to compare (still worried about that inclusion...). Seems like there's a lot more oval diamonds coming online now

Thank you! I still have a lot to learn =) I think the inclusion/little smudge would bother me in the 3.01

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/3.01-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-sku-894849 did you like this one as much as the 3.07 or just has potential? There was something I liked more about 3.07 and not sure how to articulate it (maybe more flashy facets?)

This one is the nicest in the thread (to my eyes, anyway)...

The video of that stone is so pretty, but the ASET kind of illustrates that many ovals are not brilliant like other shapes such as rounds. A good round ASET will be almost all red. This stone has very little red. Green is less strong light return. But honestly the stone is pretty to look at as long as you understand it just may not be as bright across a room or in some lighting conditions that some other diamonds would.

For an OVAL that is a STRONG ASET. Truly. Especially on a white background. It should be very evenly bright with some winking facets. No dead zones. Not strong bow tie and the video show that it is a lovely stone.

I'm so excited for you. Get it in person and see what you think!

The ASET image you posted shows the stone is Oval Modified Brilliant, the facet pattern is going to be different from the oval brilliant. It will show smaller and sparkly flashes.

OMG that's a hard one. The JA stone is larger and beautiful. But that ED stone is so bright. I have no preference I think both are strong choices. Pick the one you like the best.

I have zero expertise, but I would think it would be helpful to compare the different facet patterns in person, so I would go with the ED. It's a huge purchase and you want to be sure you know exactly which you prefer. Can't wait to see pictures!

The JA stone is closer is size to the one you are already ordering, so I probably would go with that. But I agtee with Sandy too. I am no help! Can you get both and compare all three???
