This is the oldest $20 gold piece that I own.

Hey DF, I need change for a $100 bill.
Can you give me 5 of those $20 gold coins?
Sure, send me the $100 first...

I think my grandfather's piano. It's a Mason and Hamlin from the early 20th century. I have older things that belong to me (a child's chair that was in a covered wagon on the Oregon Trail, and a really old, giant Bible), but my mom has them so they aren't in my house right now.

I, too, have a house full of old stuff. I have a small collection of flow blue china, the oldest, a sugar bowl, is from about 1860.
The other pieces are 1890's to 1920's.
We eat dinner on vintage Wedgwood dishes, just because it's more fun that way!
I have a carved Chinese elmwood chair from the 1880's. No one is allowed to sit on it! Oh, I also have a Native American arrowhead collection, Pueblo pottery shards from New Mexico, etc, etc. It's like a weird museum over here.

Stracci 2000, did you say Flow Blue??!!! oy I forgot to mention the tableware...

I am glad I am not alone. please show us the pics of your chair, that sounds so cool![/quote]

Artdecogirl, Your collection is so beautiful. I collect Mulberry, which looks like flow blue only its black. Most of my collection dates back to around 1880. I also love transferware. I have many pieces in black and also red. I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who loves these beautiful old pieces.

Hi,

I think the oldest thing I have is a 1839 Charles Dickens first edition. It sits on my coffee table In a box.

A beautiful letter from Winston Churchill. It is framed with two coins. My grandfather gave it to me.

I don't know if it's the oldest item I own, but definitely the most meaningful old item I own ... this antique rocking chair that my grandfather refinished and my grandmother recained for me when I was a little girl. It has moved all over the country with me, and I always feel like I have a piece of both of them with me when I look at it, as they are both gone and meant the world to me.

JoCoJenn, Those are the best kind of old things, it's beautiful!

Oh my lord, I would KILL for a collection like that! Blue and while is the predominant color scheme in my dining room, but I don't have the place to store a lot. Your pictures are amazing!

Thank you Amber St. Clair, it's funny I don't even have any blue rooms in my house but I love the blue and white china.

CallieCake, Thank you. We need pics of your mulberry! I am in a FaceBook group for flow blue and mulberry lovers and that stuff is gorgeous.

Stracci2000, Thank you. there is a fair amount around here but what is here is very expensive but you are right, I have been collecting it for about 20 years. Would love to see pics of your collection.

PintoBean, Thank you!

I think mine would be an old family bible. First entries are 1887. It has fallen apart and been repaired at some stage with wire threaded through the spine! It is a huge book and is in very bad condition. I keep it wrapped in cloth. I have investigated getting it repaired but a part of me thinks that takes away from its history too.

My house. It was built in 1926 and has some original fixtures - glass door knobs, stained glass windows, one original bathroom :-o

Everything in it's pretty new though. But I do like classic things. I just don't have a knack for finding quality old things.
