Hi all,

I was wondering if someone in the know could help as googling the answer is just giving me contradicting opinions.

We only have 9ct and 18ct gold in the UK, and everything I'm reading either says 18ct is harder wearing because it is more dense on the vickers scale, or 9ct is harder wearing because it is alloyed with more other metals. I know it will also depend on the exact type of alloy, but as a general rule is one harder wearing than the other?

I'm talking in terms of how fast the gold might wear away and its resistance to scratching. Again more contradicting advice says that 18ct contains more gold therefore is softer and will scratch more easily, and then I find more advice stating the opposite.

it is possible to get 14ct but its difficult.

The only other difference is 9ct appears much lighter than 18ct.

Can someone clear up which one is going to last longer? What would happen if you wore either one with an 18ct white gold ring?

Thanks! :)
