Hi There, I discovered this forum a few days ago and I have learnt a lot! However, I am very new to this and I feel like I might be making a snap decision. This is a diamond for an engagement ring.

I am thinking of buying this Diamond from Blue Nile: http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?pagename=GST%2FDispatcher&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&c=Page&cid=1355954554547&reportno=7198660227

It's in my price range and I've had confirmation that it is eye-clean. I haven't seen any photos of the Diamond. It scores 2.0 on the Holloway Cut Adviser. Which I think is at the limit of what is consider to be the "good" range.

I was thinking of buying it loose, because I don't particularly like any of the settings on the Blue Nile site. I've found a setting I like in a local jewellers, but I've heard horror stories about damage being done during the setting process. So I'm not sure if this is such a good idea. I'm based in the UK and finding it difficult to find an insurer that will cover loose diamonds for setting.

I'm general, I've been looking for about 1ct, Ideal cut, either SI1 or VS2, Colour range D-H and price no more than $6,000 (£3,800).

Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

- Dan

Hello! I can't right now but tomorrow after work if you'd like I will pick out some that I think would be a good fit for the specs you are looking for

Thanks sf1649ers80, do you think I can do much better than the one I've found?

While the diamond you found is okay I think the crown angle is too high which is why it is not considered a cut with ideal proportions.

Searching in your desired specifications was a little rough but this is the best I found. It is an almost perfect cut.

Going up to an I color it was a little easier to find some nice diamonds.
Both have ideal proportions, with one obviously being bigger than the other

Sticking with the H color but going slightly under 1ct:

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.96-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-493622

All of these diamonds are considered essentially a perfect cut. I would consider them over what you posted earlier.
Hope this helps! Let me know what you think!!

Also, Jamesallen allows you to request 3 diamond for Idealscope images and to be inspected by a gemologist. Out of the ones I have posted the bottom 3 should be eligible to be request inspections =)

Thank you! I don't know how you managed to find so many great Diamonds on James Allen. I looked and found none like this. I'll certainly be following up with Idealscope images :)
