The pond - Select Gem meets David Klass

What is the colour of the water of
that tranquil pond with Ducks?

Some time ago I found an untreated
Aqua on the Select Gem site, cuy by
Donn Law. I got great service from
Jason Brim and Eric Hoffman.

For the setting I was inspired by the
ring David Klass designed for
Violetphoenix. I decided to use 20K
RG for the setting.

I normally love vibrant saturated colours,
but I love the soft watery colouring of
this aqua. It looks like water in a pond:
a moody watery colour that can lighten
up in some lighting conditions.

The aqua is untreated and is 3.17 ct

The colour is hard to describe: it ranges from bright blue, silver, dark moody grey and a watery blue that is sometimes dark and sometimes light:

Whahaha! You make it sound so decadent. The Paraiba ring has been ready for quite a while, but I asked David to hold on to it as I have been travelling to the Caribbean first. Then I decided I might as well wait until all 3 rings could be shipped to Europe together.

The engraving is simply a work of art. DK does claw prongs very well. The tempestuous blue colors of the aqua go well with the rose gold. It looks perfect on your hand.

I don't know anything about the 18k vs 20k difference re Rose gold. 18k vs 20k yellow gold is visually apparent. Th 20k rose gold looks like it has a soft glow, very nice.

sarahb: your post made me smile. On David's photo's the gold looked more yellow than in reality. Also, I was afraid that the warm colour would overwhelm the poor Aqua. So I was wondering whether I should have chosen platinum instead. But I love the combination in real life!!

The 14K and 18K rings I have from David and Caysie are quite pink in appearance. My RG rings from a local jeweller are 18K and look more warm red in appearance. This 20K also looks warm red. It's the red sister of 20K YG (ah, it's so difficult to describe colours ).

The appearance of my new bypass ring is different again as that one is polished. The milgrain and engraving create a more classic look.

Hi arkieb! The colour is deeper / more intense and less pink! So not necessarily lighter or darker.

Ricezo: I am so glad I found this stone cut by Donn Law. Like Mochiko said it's such a tempestuous stone. It's really interesting to see the different characters.
