'Vintage' Joseph Espo ring dark blue gem stone question

Hi. So I should say I'm not an avid jewelry person. Today I picked up a ring at a thrift store though with a beautiful dark blue gem. The inside I believe reads Joseph Espo. I could only really make out the Espo though. I'll try to add a picture. Can Anyone tell me anything about this ring and what kind of gem it is? I'm curious to know.

Joseph Esposito used to sell jewelry on the QVC TV shopping channel.

I don't know if A is still around, but Joseph Esposito (ESPO) made jewelry at all price points. Many of his designs were in sterling or base metals with faux stones, but he did create some high-end designs (I vividly recall the diamond ring he made for his last wife).
