The price they're asking, after the discount for this sitting on my wishlist for so long, is $5400 for the diamond alone. I like the idea of going with lab grown to avoid supporting the debeers monopoly - are there any major reasons not to go this route? Do you think this particular diamond is a good deal? I can't afford to spend much more than this.

Well, DeBeers is hardly a monopoly these days so I'm not sure you're really meeting your objective but by all means buy what you like. From what I see, that's a lovely stone. May I ask what were the criteria that led you to that particular stone (specifically the I/VVS combination)?
