My grandmother gave me this ring as a small child, it had also been passed to her when she lived in Germany in the 1930's/1940's. I've always assumed this was a ruby, or a garnet. The stamp is extremely hard to read now, it either says '333' or '335'. Does anyone know anything about this ring? Maker? Value? Year?

Hello,

Your ring might be 8 carat gold: 333 is a gold-content mark used in Germany after 1884 (before 1884 the measurement was "Löthig" instead of karat.) Any ring marked 333 was probably made in Germany sometime after 1884.

The stones & style make me think Bohemian garnet, so probably turn of the 20th century, or thereabouts ...

P.S. - Great thread rec, ISG!
